PHOENIX - Just when it seemed the Barack Obama citizenship flap had faded into the background, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has turned the spotlight back on.
On Thursday Arpaio charged the birth certificate Obama says proves he is a U.S. citizen is a fraud, contending a forensic examination of the electronic document posted last year by the White House proves that it was not simply scanned into a file but actually put together in several pieces.
Mike Zullo, head of the sheriff's Cold Case Posse who headed the investigation, said the inconsistencies in the document cannot be explained away by claims it was optimized or had been scanned with optical character-recognition software.
Zullo also said a separate examination proves Obama's 1980 Selective Service registration also is a fake.
The White House, which thought the issue had been put to sleep with the posting of the birth certificate, had no comment.
While saying the evidence proves that a crime was committed, Arpaio was careful not to implicate the president.
"I'm not accusing anyone of anything until we find out who may have committed these alleged crimes over this birth certificate and the Selective Service card," Arpaio said.
Arpaio brushed aside a question of why he was able to find such evidence when no one else in the country has. The sheriff said he probably was the only one who bothered to investigate in detail.
Zullo also said the fact the Honolulu newspaper had a birth announcement at the time proves nothing, saying the newspaper accepted such messages without requiring proof the person actually had been born in the state.
And Zullo insisted Arpaio has jurisdiction.

Well, they did say that they have a person of interest in the COLB forgery. That is news there. They also said they are not revealing everything they have. This is wise. This way they can track anyone backtracking or trail covering with out them knowing what the investigators know.
Sometimes the reactions of the guilty actually further the evidence of their guilt. Justia comes immediately to mind. Golly, same MO, wonder why?

One thing it means is that any foreign or domestic agency can use any evidence of his foreign birth or past as “leverage”. We have a President who is just ripe for being blackmailed. And we have already seen this happen in Georgia with the Nuke plants being allowed. How many other persons have already been bought out???

Rest assured. At least one head will roll. That is the one of the "person of interest" ( whether in Hawaii or the WH ). The obits around Washington should be checked in the next few weeks for any WH staffer that may have been "hit by a bus while crossing the street".

I was under the impression she had died. has anyone interviewed her lately? Did she retract her earlier retraction? I sure hope so.
It’s similar because no one outside the birther movement gives a shit about it. You might as well be talking about crimes by Abraham Lincoln for as much relevancy it has. Obama is not going away because of the birther thing. There are not going to be any special prosecutors appointed to the case. You won’t see Wolf Blitzer talking about it. The thing is dead. The only thing that it does is it makes the conservative wing look foolish. You could come up with the greatest idea in the history of American politics, but if you start talking about it with birther stuff, no one is going to listen to you. It’s a waste of time and energy. Obama is a terrible president, and vulnerable on a ton of issues like Health care, NDAA, and contraception. Focus on those. You can change minds on that stuff. You can beat him on the issues. With the birther stuff, the only thing that you will be able to convince in people is that you are a kook.
So even though two of its investigators(Coris and Zullo) are selling a birther book, one investigator(Corsi) is a prominent birther who wrote a birther book in the past, and the editor of a prominent birther website (Farrah and WND) raising money for the posse, it has nothing to do with birthers? OK.
