WASHINGTON - Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks, a former UW football player who cast a giant presence over state and national politics for decades, announced Friday he'll retire at the end of the year after 18 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I think a sexual scandal would be minor compared to what is being uncovered with his environmental embezzlement and use of taxpayers funds for bribery and the promotion of his sons' careers.

People are used to sex garbage but, the economy being as it is they get pretty pissed about being ripped off. Dicks is the top 1% of the 1% ers.

Very amusing about the name, but this guy seems to be straight-laced. In any event, he was more pro-military than his fellow Democrats on the Pacific Coast.

In the race to succeed, state Senator Derek Kilmer has announced. Kilmer represents a sprawling district which is very marginal. If he’s elected, Republicans have a shot at winning there. Kilmer is expected to be joined by several DemocRAT officials.

Republicans have won elections in that area in the past. Tacoma had well-liked a Republican Mayor with a working class background (Doug Sutherland, who later became state Lands Commissioner, at 75 y/o, a comeback attempt is not practical). Also, the late former Governor candidate Ellen Craswell was a state Senator from the Bremerton area for a years (though she won on a recount in 1988 and was unseated in 1992). I don’t know if there are many elected Republicans in the area now.
