Obama joins in assailing Rush Limbaugh slur of student

NEW YORK (AP) — Stepping into an emerging culture clash over women, President Barack Obama made a supportive phone call Friday to a law student who testified before Congress about the need for birth control coverage, only to be called a "slut" by Rush Limbaugh.

For Obama, it was an emphatic plunge into the latest flare-up on social issues. Democratic officeholders and liberal advocacy have accused Republicans of waging a "war on women" because of GOP stances on contraception and abortion rights, and Limbaugh's tirade on his radio talk show was seen as an escalation.

In addition to her call from the president, the third-year Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke, was backed by members of Congress, women's groups, and the administration and faculty at her Roman Catholic university.

Demands for Limbaugh's sponsors to pull their ads from his show rocketed through cyberspace, and at least four companies, Quicken Loans, LegalZoom online legal document service, and bedding retailers Sleep Train and Sleep Number, bowed to the pressure.

Obama considers Limbaugh's remarks "reprehensible," according to White House spokesman Jay Carney. He said the president called Fluke to "express his disappointment that she has been the subject of inappropriate personal attacks" and to thank her for speaking out on an issue of public policy.

"The fact that our political discourse has become debased in many ways is bad enough," Carney said. "It is worse when it's directed at a private citizen who was simply expressing her views."

Obama reached Fluke by phone as she was waiting to go on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

"He's really a very a kind man," Fluke later told The Associated Press.

The left doesn’t need Obama. It appears a number of people over at National Review On-line are aghast at Rush’s accurate description of Miss Flaky Fluke. “Oh my, mustn’t use dreadful words like slut to describe Flaky Fluke”’ say the namby-pamby bluenoses at NRO. Except a slut is exactly what she is.

Is this the same Obama who gleefully referred to the Tea Party patriots as "tea baggers"?

Why yes it is.

I'm sure the irony of that is lost on the dolts of the main stream media, and as to the clueless Obama, who wallows and slimes about in hypocrisy --- he never had any credibility to be compromised so he can shoot his mouth off at will.

The issue is that the student insurance offered by Georgetown did not include birth control coverage because as a Catholic institution it would violate their religious doctrine.I would assume the policy that does not include birth control coverage is cheaper than one that does. Student health insurance policies that include birth control coverage are readily available with all private health insurers. So she could easily have obtained a policy that included birth control coverage and paid the extra premium with any number of student health insurance carriers. Instead she insisted that students attending school to get an education rather than sleeping around should be forced to pay the extra premium to have coverage for something they have no intention of ever using. I guess freedom of choice to her means the type of extracurricular activity she will engage in that evening rather than individuals having the right to choose coverage needs.Welcome to Obamacare.

"Considering that Rush has more than 20 million loyal listeners, does Obama really want to take on Rush?"

Obama needs to stir up as much hatred as he can to activate his base, who are not feeling they are getting the sort of change they hoped for.

Zero can't afford to miss an opportunity to jump on anyone disliked by the left, even Rush. Rush's listeners are probably going to vote without being stirred up. Obama's base, not so much, hence OWS & the 1%, class warfare, attacks on Rush, etc.

Rush is on O’Bunga’s brain big time. Back when he was coronated, The Won told the presstitutes and congress (paraphrase) to stop listening to Limbaugh because that's not the way we get things done around here (in DC).

This has already happened to many women.
They go on the pill, and don’t realize they’ve contracted chlymidia. The disease sterilizes them, and they don’t realize it until they try to conceive.

Then they spend a gazillion dollars trying to get pregnant.

So if a woman was permanently sterilized due to at-risk behavior condoned/subsidized by the US gov't, could she have grounds for a lawsuit? IANAL, but I would say yes.

Wasn't a Gaff, Rush knows what he is doing. What we need here is a bunch of losers telling him how he needs to sell his G 550, and his Maybach, because he is Doomed!.

I wish Free Republic had a “revise your post” feature.

Lot of posters use an iPad, and the auto correct feature gets all of us in trouble, since posts are often made late at night from our beds.

Its as if there were a commie plot, I tell you. Getting old is another factor, and I swear sometime that auto correct feature changes things after I hit the post button. {:-)

nothing will convince his sycophants.

Shows wisdom on your part, because nothing will change them except the final solution. The real truth that most don't want to accept is, there are over seven billion fools occupying their pristine planet, and they want us to get off. This is all about population control, soon it will be about quality control. Mobile euthanasia units launched in Netherlands...

LMAO!!! EVERYTHING he has touch has failed. There must be a campaign slogan in that somewhere.

It's not Obama with the Midas touch, it's Obama with the minus touch.
