At bottom, the real problem is what Charles Murray describes in his new book, Coming Apart --the growing gap between college-educated people schooled in the wish fulfillment of "green energy" and the hard-won, hard-nosed wisdom of blue-collar America. To the elite in New York, Washington and San Francisco, energy generation is something we're trying to put behind us. It's déclassé. Only in blue-collar regions like Pennsylvania, Ohio and North Dakota do the realities of energy become visible, tangible, and audible -- and taxable.
The good news for Republicans is that the battle lines are drawn. After a summer of $5 gas plus power shortages in industrial regions, the results of four years of Obama energy policies will be hard to avoid. And there won't be any George Bushes around to take the blame.

He (Obama) is a convenient target but it is our neighbors and fellow citizens, distracted and unenlightened or uninterested who are condemning us to a fate they fail to apprehend.
One has to start in your own house sometimes and then work next door...

No one can rest this year- use your e-mail contacts and beyond to do good work!
All I can say is drill, drill, drill and at the same time explore all other resources from which we can either extract or covert them to oil such as shale and coal. At the same time we should embark on a massive construction schedule of nuclear power plants which can provide clean and reasonably priced energy, of course any other supplemental energy source is more than welcome such as wind, solar etc.
At the same time great effort should be expanded and research subsidized by our government to bring about the nuclear fusion process as it is much cleaner and safer and has none of the nuclear waste as by products and will provide us with a near limitless supply of energy for generations to come.
There is little doubt in my mind that we will have to reach this point very soon as the survival of our society is at stake. In the long run no society can grow and prosper without a plentiful and reasonably priced supply of energy. The results of what happens if we do not happen to have these resources can be seen all around us with prices of almost everything going out of sight.
Unfortunately we still have way too many politicians who are unable to grasp the bigger picture and instead of making a concentrated and concerted effort to solve our energy problem picker amongst themselves about things which should be secondary in nature at best.
Bluntly spoken lets face it, when you have to put most of your money in to your gas tank or leave it at the grocery store there is not much left to be spent on anything else which in turn will depress our economy, this is something most of our politicians fail to grasp and I do not take pleasure to mention that it is at their own peril..
Right now we have not even reached the number one level of a society. Applying the laws of thermodynamics and energy, astrophysicists who scan the heavens have been able to classify hypothetical extraterrestrial civilizations in to three types, based on ways they utilize energy. Russian astronomer Nikolai Kardashev and Princeton physicist Freeman Dyson label them Type I, II and III civilizations.
Assuming a modest yearly increase in energy consumption, one can extrapolate centuries in to the future when certain energy supplies will be exhausted, forcing society to advance to the next level.
A type 1 society is one that has mastered all forms of terrestrial energy. Such a society can modify the weather (does that remind you of something?) mine the oceans, or extract energy from the center of their planet. Their energy needs are so large that they must harness the potential resources of their entire planet. Harnessing and managing resources on this gigantic scale requires a sophisticated degree of cooperation among heir individuals with elaborate planetary communication. This by necessity means that they have attained a truly planetary civilization, one that has put to rest most of their fictional, religious, sectarian, and nationalistic struggles that typifies their origin.
Type 2 civilizations have mastered stellar energy. Their energy needs are so great that they have exhausted planetary sources and must use their sun itself to drive their machines. Dyson has speculated that, by building a giant sphere around their sun, such a civilization might be able to harness their sun’s total energy output. They also have begun the exploration and possible colonization of nearby star systems.
Type 3 civilizations have exhausted the energy output of a single star. They must reach out to neighboring star systems and clusters, and eventually evolve in to a galactic civilization. They obtain their energy by harnessing collections of star systems throughout the galaxy.
To give a sense of scale, the United Federation of Planets described in Star Trek probably qualifies for an emerging Type 2 status, as they just have attained the ability to ignite stars and have colonized a few nearby star systems.
This system of classifying civilizations is a reasonable one because it relies on the available supply of energy. Any advanced civilization in space will eventually find three sources of energy at their disposal: their planet, their star, and their galaxy. There is no other choice.
The conclusion is that no country or society can grow and prosper without a reasonably priced plentiful supply of energy.

recalling a Gates investment, I did a search on Bill Gates invests algae and came up with an article dated 2008 about Sapphire Energy that Gates invested heavily in. They were supposed to have made gasoline from algae by 2011, projecting a whopping 10,000 barrels a day. I’d guess they’re still trying. but 10K/day doesn’t sound like a whole lot of anything.
