DIVIDE, COLO. -- Republican Presidential hopefuls are busy campaigning for their party's nomination, but in one small Colorado city, the campaigning is being done for mayor - and the candidates aren't exactly human.
Nine animal candidates are running for mayor of Divide, a small city on the west side of Pikes Peak.
The election is actually a fundraiser for the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter. Each vote costs $1, with all proceeds going toward renovations and expansion for the shelter. . . .

You can learn more about the nine candidates pictured above and vote
here. The candidates include one cat, five dogs, one goat, one bird, and one wolf. Voting more than once is strongly encouraged.
The only requirement to run for mayor is that all candidates must have jobs. For example,
Walter the cat who is currently
vice mayor works at the Animal Clinic of Woodland Park.

In the interest of fairness, here's a picture of the current mayor of Divide, Sprite,a pit bull mix who travels with Dr. Lisa Berg at The Mobile Pet Vet in Divide as her vet truck dog.

All candidates have to be working animals. That eliminates congresscritters right off.

That's very clever. The votes cost $1 each, and you can vote as many times as you like. Unfortunately, they use paypal, so I didn't vote because I refuse to use it.
I hope that Walter wins, but he's in second-to-last place, poor kitty.

$180 if fees to 'adopt' a rescue dog???
That is astounding.
I'm pretty damned sure I could look around and get a stray for free.
To: khelus
Why not? The mayor of Lajitas, TX, has been a beer drinking goat named Clay Henry as long as I can remember.

The fee likely includes the cost of vetting, altering, feeding, housing, care, and screening potential adopters.
I've taken in both a stray dog and stray cats. Vetting and altering is not cheap. Don't forget TCRAS is a no kill shelter, so they house and care for their animals until a forever home is found.

I refuse to use Paypal, too.
What’s wrong with mailing them a check or putting a buck in an envelope and mailing it to them?

Yes, I got their address, and I’m going to send a check. No more paypal, ever. I’ll pay more to avoid paypal.
