Rush: “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke”; Update: Ironic tweet of the day
Hotair ^ | 03/03/2012 | ED MORRISSEY

Posted on 03/03/2012 8:32:15 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.

That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.

Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):

Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.

Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.

"Amen, let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Your premise is to emasculate Christians when they are commanded by Jesus to judge righteously. Apparently you do not get context, thus turn Jesus into a convoluted liar.

I knew as soon as I heard Rush call her a slut this was going to happen. Women resent the word slut because there is no term for men engaging in the same behavior.

Exactly! I thought about this, but didn't mention it. Regardless, of what Ms. Fluke is, or how wrong headed her thoughts might be on the subject the word choice was inappropriate.

So which is it, judge not or judge righteously, jeeze you are turning heads around. Maybe God expected adults to read more carefully and use our reasoning skills to apply context to the Chapters. Instead, you read the Bible like a spoiled little toddler using the “Judge not...” verse and encouraging sin among society.

If people want to do all kinds of sexual sins that is on them, when they expect me to pay for their pleasure and lack of self-control, people are going to call them out and judge righteously. Admonishing whores is part of the public process. Although Fluke spoke in generalities, she is still a spokeswoman for Whores R Us.

Before you gloat explain the difference between Luke 6:37/Matt 7:1 and John 7:24.

Who cares if the lefties use Rush’s words as a sound-bite? He’s not out there running for public office!

This is a critical time for us to speak truth to corruption, and Rush is our principal standard bearer.

Rush is a pillar of conservative influence, my FRiend, and the dark side seeks to weaken his cred and standing.

Watch, you will now see Alinsky-esque ridicule of our El Rushbo on an extraordinary high level.

The difference is that the Fluke woman labeled herself first, scandalously and publicly in front of congress, and seemed smug and proud of it. The woman caught in adultery did nothing of the kind. So we are comparing apples to oranges, the two scenarios don’t really fit logically.

Jesus had no problem publicly calling out and condemning the pharisees when their words and actions were clearly in need of forthright condemnation. He cried Woe upon them!! This is much closer to the situation we have here - it is the calling out of truth - the word slut is a definition of a woman who engages in promiscuous activity.

See the difference? Rush was right to tell the truth; it is much closer to Jesus righteous anger at wrongdoers. He yelled at the sellers and buyers in the temple - calling them a den of thieves.

"I feel like I've been stabbed in the heart by my best friend."

When I read the apology yesterday, that is exactly how I felt. I texted my bff saying "my bf betrayed me" (I always referred to Rush as my "boyfriend".

She called me back and I was so upset. We were just talking about the slut thing. She is not a listener but she could not believe he apologized (I'm her "informant").

She could not comfort me, just said sorry. She was upset because I was so upset. We both despise betrayal, so she could understand where I was coming from.

"This broad is not worth it" Exactly. I had hopes that Rush would start his Monday program with presentation of the extensive liberal socialist democrat resume of Sandra Fluke. She is a democrat stooge, worse than a slut in my opinion. Fluke is a student at Catholic Georgetown precisely to play her part in the socialist agenda of forcing the powerful Catholic church to capitulate on their opposition to abortion. I think that Rush did what he needed to do with his apology for calling Fluke a slut. His sponsors also responded to the pressures of business. I have and do support Rush and will continue to do so. You have covered a lot of important considerations about the repercussions of what is going on with the faux contraception issue. The Catholic church in America provided Obama with his current job as CIC with 30 percent of Catholic voters casting their ballots for him. According to polls I have seen. We have learned in a very harsh and dangerous way that the socialist democrat machine now in control of America has an agenda that is directly opposed to the teachings of the church. They are well on their way to imposing control over not only all religious institutions but all areas of disagreement with implementation of the socialist agenda.
The upside of this Rush contraception controversy is that even more of the public has been made aware that there is one. It is an opportunity for Rush and others in a position to do so to spend some time connecting the dots for their listeners. I do not think that Rush is even down, certainly not out. He has the opportunity for a twofer, educate and elucidate.

"To all you supposed Christians out there. What would Jesus have done?"

Read about it in the Bible. It states exactly what He DID do.

I agree but Rush was right to apologize for name calling. He didn’t condone the sin - just like Jesus didn’t condone prostitution. Underneath all this all I’m trying to point out is it is wrong to call people names. At first I agreed to call her a slut but that is not proper.

But Glenn Beck is right on the money because the businesses are caving to leftist intimidation campaigns against them.

Beck was not referring to government regulations causing them to cave.

The leftists have imtimidated businesses into withdrawing advertising from Rush’s program and they are spineless jellyfish.

I’M FED UP WITH BUSINESSES CAVING INTO LEFTISTS?????????

What was it, last year I think, the SLUTS had a parade or “protest” proclaiming they were PROUD to be sluts.

Some of them even went topless. From the pics I remember, they were many many men there, not surprisingly looking for an easy lay.
