Newt Gingrich's Sunday pitch: Don't count me out
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 4, 2012 | Mark Z. Barabak

Posted on 03/04/2012 12:09:30 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...."This is going to go on for a good while," the former House speaker said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," one of several Washington talk shows Gingrich visited in the run-up to Super Tuesday.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may outspend the rest of the GOP field "by multiples," Gingrich said, but "he's not a very convincing front-runner and he's a long way from having closed out this race."

Gingrich said he expects to win Georgia, the largest of the states voting in Tuesday's nationwide sweepstakes, and to do so by more than Romney's narrow victory Tuesday in his native Michigan. From there, Gingrich said, he expects to win Alabama and Mississippi a week later and bulk up his delegate count in Texas and California at the end of the calendar.

.....Gingrich repeatedly refused to be drawn into the controversy surrounding Rush Limbaugh. The talk radio host apologized Saturday night for the slurs he used to refer to a Georgetown University law school student after she testified before congressional Democrats in favor of a rule requiring employers to offer health insurance covering birth control.

While Gingrich said the apology was appropriate, he accused the "elite media" of avoiding more pressing issues, such as rising gas prices, the death of Americans in Afghanistan and, not least, the Obama administration's alleged hostility to religious institutions.

"Nobody's blocking anyone from having access to contraception. No one," Gingrich said on NBC's "Meet The Press." The question, as he framed it, is whether Obama, through government fiat, can impose his views on religious institutions.

"Have we become a country where it's OK to go to church on Sunday morning for one hour, but let's not actually express those beliefs the rest of the week?" Gingrich demanded.

Oh..lol. You’re fast! You linked to the one I had deleted which went to the start of the show and not directly to Newt’s interview.

He has been saying that since his ONE win in South Carolina. Getting fourth place every state since. Don’t count me out will be said from his mouth three months from now. He will get 9 3rd or 4th place wins on Tuesday and MAYBE either a first or second place in Georgia. He is a one hit wonder.

If Newt drops out he will not endorse and his supporters will sit it out until the general. Santo wizzed on Newt’s leg so he is going to be on his own. Good luck with that.

Wow. You really know Newt that much. He said this morning that he will support the Republican nominee and would hope it is Santorum is not himself. He does not hate a conservative like you do.

I heard Newt Gingrich tell David Gregory that the 3 GOP candidates discussed supporting the nominee this weekend (perhaps it was at Huckabee's forum on Jobs). And he said they all agreed that that in the end they would back the nominee and fight to beat Obama.

I did not hear anything about Newt hoping it would be Santorum. Got a link to that?

GO NEWT...

When will Republicans LEARN??? Learn from the past.

EVERY STINKING election year, they drag out a SEX issue..

The Republicans feel the need to get down in the pig pen and speak their minds. You will not win. SHUT UP already, in fact don't even approach the subject. Stupidity.

Newt hoping it would be Santorum.

I did not say that he was hoping it was Santorum exclusively. I said if Newt could NOT be the nominee he would want it to be Santorum. Newt wants to be the nominee.

I hope Rush will be able to use this in his defense. Fluke is exactly what he said she was, but at the time he didn’t know how true it was. Now he does.

I said if Newt could NOT be the nominee he would want it to be Santorum.

So then likewise, Rick would want Newt to be the nominee over Mitt. [??]

Have you heard this or are you just trying to shine Rick up a tad by imagining a pre-convention endorsement of Rick by Newt?

That was awesome. Gingrich clearly has the composure to speak on any subject, with wisdom.

He certainly spanked that pompous Gregory. Gregory did not go done easily, lol, kept coming back for another spanking by NEWT.

Here is what I would like to see done: Put a CONDOM on the head of every male media talking head. Put a contraceptive, (what ever they are called for short) in the mouth of every Liberal female talking heads.

This would should keep them from spreading their VILE liberal disease driven messages that do more harm to Americans than anything Rush has said. The whole Liberal media are an STD.

Hope the good ‘ol Georgia boy can make some hay but if he ain't a contender come Wednesday he had best drop out and endorse Santorum of go ahead and jump on the Romney wagon for all the good he will be doing from then on...

...then it's four more of the brown Bolshevik.

And if Santorum does poorly, or is in third place on Super Tuesday, I hope he is courageous enough and selfless enough to do the right thing and drop out and endorse Newt.

Don't you?

I am at the point ...where I will vote for anyone, ANYONE but Obama.

Not a Romney supporter, never will be. But if I can at least vote to send that Marxist POS and his digusting mooch of a wife out of the WH — and their absolutely EVIL administration out, along with all the czars???

I say GET HIM OUT, NOW. Whatever it takes. He is DISGUSTING. Another 4 years of THIS??? We’ll be fighting off the hoardes who will suddenly break in from everywhere ...we will have NO resources left ...it will be a fight for land and anything else we have left ...which won’t be much.

But I want it to be Newt ...and I think he IS the best man by far, for the job. Praying my fellow GOP members come to their senses and understand this very soon.

Not me.

My conscience won't let me vote for a constant and serial liar like Mitt Romney, especially when he employs that lying characteristic of his to lie about the actual conservatives in the race,.

Add to that his Progressive Liberal record, and if he is the nominee, I'll have to go Third-party for the first time in my life.

This was great!! I love the way he puts it to that stinking
David Gregory! Besides being the smartest and best candidate,
Newt has the cutest friendly smile. Oh gosh, he would be
such a great President. I hate that no one in the Media
will own up to their own sins about being in love with B.O.!!

Thank you, onyx!

GO, NEWT, GO! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!

Thanks for the post onyx! This was a great interview...in one-on-one settings Newt is always able to reframe the questions and call his interviewers to task. He is the best at it. We need his communication skills against Obama.
