Rush Limbaugh: Still has the biggest sponsor on his side
The Los Angeles Times ^ | March 5, 2012 | Rene Lynch

Rush Limbaugh is probably not sweating this one, folks. The critics keep piling on. But the immensely popular talk radio host has the biggest "sponsor" of all on his side: Clear Channel radio network.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, and New York's Cardinal Timothy Dolan are among the latest to criticize Limbaugh for calling a Georgetown University student a "slut" and a "prostitute" after she testified in favor of birth control insurance coverage.

But Clear Channel's Premiere Radio Networks Inc., which hosts Limbaugh's conservative talk show, has voiced its unwavering support for Limbaugh, whose contract runs through 2016.

"The contraception debate is one that sparks strong emotion and opinions on both sides of the issue," Premiere Networks told the Associated Press. "We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions."

A representative for Premiere declined to tell the news service how much revenue the company is losing over the recent loss of advertisers seeking to distance themselves from Limbaugh and his comments....

Newt has not said much about it. I certainly have not heard him criticise Rush.

Ummm....

1. The trend is towards online broadcasting anyway. Because the talk demographic is older who show higher resistance to podCasting, et al, for now the real money is on the airwaves. The future might not be Alex Jones, per se, but his netCentric format is certainly the future. So Rush scaling back on AM might not be super bad.

2. Rush has been poor before —he has seen it all. He also has lots of savings and Two if By Tea. He will definately survive, and this actually might prove good, since it might shove him over to the virtual side more now. This isn’t good, but...it’s not a disaster for him, although for those Republican idiots it probably will be.

3. His fan base is fanatically devoted. They will follow him anywhere. I think Rush should get into non-network video production more. Studios are cheaper, and cameras that were once $50,000 are now $2,500 —just look at Act of Valor, a #1 film shot with cameras carried by upper-income everyday tourists. What has happened to computers has also been occuring to cameras and video-editing. Alex Jones shoots using interns and a studio in a business park —it looks great and is distributed via YouTue. A budget for a really great studio could easily be less than $30k. He could be making something like his old show, but on a shorter format —2.5 minute vids, maybe every other day, viewable by commuters on their iPhone and droids. FreddieW, a 25 y.o. YouTuber who never went to film school, gets 7 million hits weekly on his ~ 2 minute fx videos.

4. Rush needs to write another book. It will be an instant best-seller and could come in time for the impending election. All his fans will buy it. The libs will crap their pants.

Beck has advertisers.. But the subscriptions could probably support the show without them. For Rush this would surely be the case and he can push all the ‘Two If By Tea’ he wants! LOL

What Rush did was so F’n stupid. What you had after that was a target rich laughable dumb shit fleabagger type activist.
And RUSH has to go THERE.Thats like calling a bombing raid on your own position when the enemy is totally exposed in an open field, and desperate to go on last ditch suicide runs. While Rush drops a daisy cutter on to our positions.
We are the ones running in chaos and ducking for cover and licking wounds
Rush turned this broad from a silly elitist little brat into Rosa Parks.
Talk about snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.
Dumb talentless son of bitch has to go the high school slut angle. It puts damper on all the possible possible angles to take apart that circus.

Probably Libertarians. They are the only ones out there with any idea of how to balance the budget and pay down the debt. It is for sure the Republican can or will not. Since the 2010 elections how much has the debt grown? 2 Trillion? It could not have grown a cent WITHOUT the Republicans signing on. Both parties have surrendered in the “War on Terror”. Iraq is coming apart. Afghanistan is really a sick joke. And Iran is inching closer to becoming a nuclear power every day. Every gain since 2002 has been surrendered with the Republicans meekly going along to get along. The border is as porous as ever regardless of what both parties say. Human smuggling is down due to the economy, but drug smuggling is up big time. However I hear bootlegging has dropped off quite a bit since the repeal of prohibition. This country is run by one party the Government party. The only way to change it is to quit supporting them. No More!
How can the Libertarian party do any worse?

I’d say you’re the fool because you don’t listen. Rush apologised for “his choice of words” the other day, then today he said he was sorry for stooping to the left’s level. both in my book say he dogged them out... Fluke, and the left in general.

The guy handled it with class, and since you dont agree, now you have no one... Go sit in the corner.

I will keep and profess my opinion on FR until Jim tells me otherwise.

Why is it that we cannot disagree on this unfortunately successful plot by the left... without degrading it into personal attacks? We do not have to agree on this to remain Conservatives locked in a battle with powers that want to destroy us and our way of life. FR is about open discussions of Conservatism. We see the situation differently... big deal... I have explained my reasoning and I remain convinced of my opinion.

If Rush is sued by this person and the media continues to beat the anti Rush drum... then I will be proved correct. I know that you probably do not believe this but I hope that I am wrong and that you are correct. For that to happen... the left would have to surprise me and do something that is unnatural for them and not do what they are compelled to do... attack the right and never stop.

Plus, much of his audience listens on the radio while they drive.

My car broke down one day 60 miles from home and I rode in the wrecker. The wrecker driver had tattoos, piercings and shaved head. He had Rush on his wrecker radio.

“I never thought Rush to be a fool... until yesterday.”

“without degrading it into personal attacks?”

I wont waste either of our time responding to that one...

You know what you’re doing here? youre taking a sledge hammer to a car with a blown motor, and blaming the hood ornament as to why you’re beating up the car...

Rush blew it bigtime by apologizing to Fluke

Actually he didn't. During today's opening monologue, which likely drew the largest audience of his career, he reiterated his apology then went on to give a complete and in depth explanation into what the dems were attempting to do last week. For those listening who didn't know the facts, they got an ear full.........Rush was brilliant!

Those who criticize Rush are essentially supporting a slut who wants other people to pay $3,000 a year so she can hop from bed to bed and enjoy worry-free sexcapades. I have lost respect for Gingrich over this. (The other two scumbags mentioned, I don’t care about.)

I was listening to every word. I hope that you are correct. hoyer and pelosi are calling on her to sue Rush... and I predict that she will. If she does, that apology will have been for naught. The damage is done regardless. The left won this one... slam dunk.

Clear Channel, by the way, is owned by Bain Capital.

Partially owned, according to George Stephanopoulus on GMA this morning. He also went on to mention Romney's connection to Bain also.

Translation:

Rush = Bain Capital = Romney = GOP = pure evil.........

.What do you expect?
