Sarah Palin suggested it and, now, Allen West says he’d consider it. On Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien this morning, the Florida Republican Congressman recounted his unexpected and relatively quick journey to his present position of prominence and said he’d be equally willing to take on a vice presidential run.
As far as the Vice President thing, you know, who knows,” he said. “Because it wasn’t too long ago I was sitting in the desert of Kandahar, Afghanistan, and now I’m here talking with you. … I am always willing and ready to serve my country in whatever capacity that the American people would desire.”
Sarah Palin was far from the first person to think that Allen West would be a compelling choice for the No. 2 spot on the ticket. Our own Patrick Ishmael has included Allen West as a potential VP candidate in Hot Air readership polls for months — and Hot Air readers have frequently vaulted him to the top of their preferred list. Still, Palin, as a former particularly energizing VP candidate herself, put West on the national vice presidential radar.
He’d make a better counterbalance to Mitt Romney than to Rick Santorum, though. The DNC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz will already hammer Santorum on “women’s issues.” Can you imagine the vengeance if West — who has directly called out DWS for her unladylike behavior — were on the ticket, too?
Regardless of whether he catapults to the national stage after a single term as a freshman congressman, though, West’s keen sense of patriotism and fresh tell-it-like-it-is approach to politics will ensure his popularity for years to come.
Only Gingrich/West or Palin/West will do.
Good Lord, no. Allen’s a good man; I don’t want him stained with being Willard’s Veep.
VP nothing.
I want Allen West for PRESIDENT!!!
I love Allen West - in spite of a couple of unfortunate votes. But he has nothing on his resume to show expertise with the economy and we need someone with way more seasoning than has to take the lead. I’d choose Newt but just don’t see how that can happen.
Once he’s been around the job a few more years I think he’d make an awesome POTUS.
If we’re talking a Romney headed ticket; I would remind everyone what running w/McCain did to Sarah Palin. Romney would only diminish Allen West’s reputation and credibility. Sarah above all should know this!!!
NOT until he resigns from the ultra-racist CBC!

You can bet Romney will not pick Allan West to run with.
West is too strong for Romney, Romney and the RINO’s who love Romney could not control him.
This isn’t about electing a Republican as President. It is about electing a Republican that the RINO’s can control.
Romney will be their lap dog.
Romney would not have the guts to pick him. One strongly worded protest letter from CAIR and Mitt would fold like a three-dollar card table.
There are FReepers who tell me in previous threads that he reason why Ron Paul has not attacked Romney even once in ANY debate or ads, even as he has attacked every other GOP candidate is because Paul has an agreement with Romney.
Nope, the agreement is not to make Ron Paul VP, but to make his SON, Rand Paul the VP.
So Col. Allen West is just a dream.
RE: I love Allen West - in spite of a couple of unfortunate votes. But he has nothing on his resume to show expertise with the economy
Put him in as Secretary of Defense instead. The VP does not do much anyway.
Can you hear the Florida libs? “But, but, but, Alan West killed his Iraqi prisoners, and he was court martialed, and now he belongs to a violent motorcycle gang”. s/c
For those who don’t remember, here is the incident in Iraq when Rep. Allen west was still Col. Allen West.... IT WILL COME UP AGAIN IF WEST EVER GETS TO EVEN MORE NATIONAL PROMINENCE.

While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a reported plot to ambush him and his men. The alleged plot reportedly involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, a civilian Iraqi police officer. West, who was not responsible for conducting interrogations in Iraq and had never conducted nor witnessed one, had his men detain Hamoodi. In the process of detaining Mr. Hamoodi, soldiers testified that Hamoodi appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued.
Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 220th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body. West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi’s head, after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as “meaningless information induced by fear and pain.” At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found. West said “At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It’s possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi.”
West was charged with violating articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
During a hearing held as part of an Article 32 investigation in November 2003, West stated, “I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers.” The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial, at which West was fined $5,000.
LTC West accepted the judgment and retired with full benefits in the summer of 2004.
Asked if he would act differently under similar circumstances again, West testified, “If it’s about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.”
BTW, for those who don’t know or remember, At his hearing, West pointed out that there were no further ambushes against American forces in Taji until he was relieved of his leadership post.
After West’s retirement, he received more than 2,000 letters and e-mails offering him moral support.
Furthermore, a letter supporting West was signed by 95 members of Congress and sent to the Secretary of the Army.
I don’t care who the VP is. If it’s Mittens, I won’t vote GOP.
He’s vastly outnumbered by lunatic racists and doesn’t have a snowball’s chance. Wasn’t Cain also a member, at one time? Or am I thinking of someone else?
