As I understand it, if the legislature and governor are unable to come to agreement (which is quite likely) this is the map.

I always thought Greenberg has more to back up his candidacy ... intellect, strong personality, finances. Unfortunately, he also attracts a certain right-wing crowd that is vulgar and delights in offending people.

Had this exact thing not happened in 2002 (when the court-drawn map’s inconveniencing of powerful congressmen spurred the two houses of the state legislature and the governor to set aside their differences and adopt an incumbent-protection plan instead of letting the court-drawn map go into effect), I would agree that this map will end up being the one that is used in 2012. I think that history will repeat itself, and that Cuomo will sign a compromise map into law, saying that the map that he had promised to veto had been improved upon greatly and that he would sign it under the expectation that a non-political redistricting process would be adopted for 2022 redistricting.

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank RINOs extraordinaire Nancy Johnson and Chris Shays for insisting that New Britain and Bridgeport stay in the CT-05 and CT-04, respectively, in 2002,

So they wanted less Republican districts? Wackjobs.

Why is Gibson a RINO?

That's My bad, I got him confused with Hanna.

Ever see the map of TUrner’s current district?

Yeah, it looks like some kind of missile turret or something.

How do you think Ann Marie Buehrle will make out? I think she's the best one in the state.

Johnson lived in New Britain, and Shays had moved to Bridgeport (for political reasons, I’m sure) a few years earlier, but they could have just moved one town west and still be able to vote for themselves. And there was no way they could have possibly carried their hometown in a contested election, so they were ‘t just giving the middle finger to future GOP candidates (not only through 2010—we’ve seen how the new maps kept those cities put because placing them in the CT-01 and CT-03 would be “politically motivated”), but dug their own graves. Stupid RINOs.

I decided not to analyze the NY interim map unless and until it becomes the final map (which I don’t believe will happen).

Also, Johnson and Shays may have asked to keep New Britian and Bridgeport in their respective CDs in order to protect them from primary challenges: they could count on primary votes from their hometowns, new GOP areas that would replace their hometowns would bring in many new primary voters who could well vote for a non-RINO, and keeping their districts slightly Dem-leaning fed their claim that “only a “moderate” like me can win.”

That makes more sense to me.

They’d have to be developmentally disabled to want democrat towns without a logical reason.

If it’s just cause they didn’t want to deal with moving or not living in the district that’s very lame.

What happened that year anyway, the rat leg compromised with the Rowland, right? Would they have listened if Shays and Johnson wanted those towns removed?

No, the legislature couldn’t agree on lines, so a judge drew a compromise map, with input from the incumbent congressmen. He (or she, I can’t remember) kept a CT-02 in eastern CT because Simmons convinced him that eastern CT was distinct from the rest of the state, and drew a “fair fight” CT-05 for Johnson (who had represented the CT-06, which was disappearing) and the RAT Maloney (who actually was a bit less liberal on social issues than was Johnson) that included their respective hometowns at their behest. I’m positive that I remember Johnson fighting to include New Britain in the CT-05 and Shays fighting to include Bridgeport in the CT-04.

if you look at post #11, you see that Ann Marie (district 24) avoids Ithaca-Cornell (Tompkins County) in the judge’s map.

I think Buehrle will win 13 games for the Marlins. But will not pitch a no-hitter.

We will miss him in Chi-town. Ozzie and the Big Z, not so much. (entertaining though they are)
