Obama ‘Has Turned His Back’ on Israel, Santorum Says

Rick Santorum on Tuesday called Iran “a nightmare for all freedom-loving people in the world,” promising that if he is elected president, “we would find no gap between Israel and the United States because our interests are united.”

Speaking to thousands of delegates at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Conference in Washington, Mr. Santorum took every opportunity to swipe at President Obama and other members of his administration, describing him as “reticent” regarding the threat Iran presents.

“He says he has Israel’s back,” Mr. Santorum said. “He has turned his back.”

As 10 states vote in Republican primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday, Mr. Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, was the only contender for the presidential nomination to visit the conference in person, though Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich were scheduled to present remarks by video satellite. “This is a somewhat important day in my life today,” Mr. Santorum noted. “I wanted to come off the campaign trail,” he added, saying one of the reasons he was running for president was “the grave concern” he has about Iran. ....

In a speech devoted to Iran, Mr. Santorum got one of his largest ovations for a call to oppose the “radical environmental movement” from blocking the building of pipelines that he said could make the United States energy independent and keep gas prices down.

And he called for issuing an immediate “ultimatum” to Iran: stop nuclear production and allow the United States to inspect your nuclear facilities. “We need to be prepared, if that ultimatum is not met,” he added. “If they do not tear down those facilities, we will tear them down ourselves.”

Either Santorum or Gingrich would immensely improve Israel policy.

Obama has just turned to sounding more pro-Israel in recent days. I suspect he needs to keep the gulf cool to keep the lid on gas prices through November, plus it might get him some Jewish votes as an extra benefit. If all else fails and gas prices are crippling him anyway by the fall so much so that the election looks close, he'll attack Iran then. It won't have anything to do with liking Israel, but attacks are always politically popular and will make it seem that he has moved right, so he can get re-elected and continue moving the country left for 4 more years.

If Israel trusts the liar in the White House, the country is doomed. Israel should tell the US to go pound salt, then rain a world of hurt on Iran.

Newt supports a palestinian state. Rick Santorum says, "There are no Palestinians."

Here is the tactical problem:

Iran is well aware of Israel’s (rightful) intentions and America’s weapons, and have up-armored every critical process in their nuclear weapons program.

Tunneling is something that Iran has always done better than any country in the world, throughout history, it’s an engineering fact.

Israel’s goal is to attack, not to necessarily succeed. A show of strength at a minimum.

America has a different challenge, we cannot participate in an attack that doesn’t win. If our bunker-busters don’t work, we lose the credibility of that weapon system.

The world will then know that anyone, N Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Myanmar, Pakistan, etc can hide evil underground.

Our military planners doubt the bunker-busters will work.

De-mystifying ground penetration bombs ends their diplomatic and strategic use.

OK, everyone will know how deep to dig.

And...Iran will learn from any failed attack that it cannot be stopped by Israel or America. They will bray like a pack of mules at the world...and be believed.

I believe that Iran wants to be attacked.
