After reading a hit piece on republican candidates in my school newspaper, I was inspired to write this to educate my fellow classmates and Facebook friends. To be on the list, an issue must meet both of the following criteria: 1) Be an issue of importance in the national election. 2) Have enough information to compare every candidate on the issue. Instead of attacking or demeaning any of the candidates, I put together an overview of what they support and what they don't.
Barack Obama
- Believes in economic stimulus through higher taxes on top earners and more government spending
- Supports keeping tax rates at current levels for most Americans and raising taxes on top income level - (Current personal income tax rates: 35%, 33%, 28%, 25%, 15%, 10%; Current corporate income tax rate: 35%)
- Supports keeping the Federal Reserve
- Supports and passed universal healthcare
- Does not support a balanced budget amendment
- Opinion still evolving on gay marriage
- Pro-choice
- Opposes SOPA
Rick Santorum
- Believes in economic stimulus through lower taxes, less regulation, less government spending
- Supports two income tax levels: 10% and 28%. Corporate income tax at 17.5%, 0% for manufacturing
- Supports auditing the Federal Reserve
- Opposes universal healthcare (supports private enterprise)
- Supports a balanced budget amendment
- Does not support gay marriage
- Pro-life
- Opposes SOPA (has suggested support for some internet regulation)
Other three candidates after the jump.
