‘Good luck tonight,’ Obama says to Romney on Super Tuesday
By Jonathan Easley - 03/06/12 02:00 PM ET

President Obama offered his likely Republican opponent Mitt Romney a caustic “good luck” for Super Tuesday.

Asked at a news conference if he’d like to respond to Romney’s comments calling Obama the “most feckless president since Carter,” Obama said: “Good luck tonight.”

After the quip got laughs from the press gallery, Obama smiled and said, “No, really. Really.”

Ten states will head to the polls for the March 6 Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses, and Romney is expected to win a plurality of delegates. That would set up a showdown with Obama in the fall.

Obama had been asked if he had anything to say in response to a Romney op-ed in which the former governor criticized his policy toward Israel and Iran and said “hope is not a foreign policy.”

Obama did not directly answer the question, but earlier in his news conference he criticized GOP bluster for a war with Iran.

Romney will essentially cinch it tonight so get used to it. His electability polling is huge in these states tonight.

Nobama no matter who it is.

I’m so disgusted with the right buying into the lie that Romney is the only one who can win against zero. Americans were dumb as a box of rocks in 2008, and they keep repeating that pattern. God help us!

I personally think people here really don’t know Mitt that well and for the most part have him wrong or don’t give him enough credit. As someone who lives in (M)assachusetts I can tell you that Romney isn’t going more conservative now, he was before MA. He dumbed it down for the morons that populate this state (myself and a few others excluded) to get elected here. He had to otherwise it wasn’t going to happen. Romney IS conservative, make no mistake.

He also has amazing executive experience. Not many people remember the roof tile falling from one of the big dig tunnels. Romney came in and took total charge. He was giving press conferences with no notes, spewing off minute details and quite frankly it was amazing. He ripped Fat Matt Amorello a new one. The famous “walk” where you couldn’t hear what was said but you could see Mitt’s face as he ranted at Matt and we all cheered.

I didn’t cheer the 400% increase in my FID fee. Actually it’s even higher than that.

All that said, I’m for Gingrich.

Nope. Third Party for MANY of us. I will not vote the enemy into our camp. Boy the elites love the “yes we’ll take whatever you shove down our throats” attitude.

We will never extricate the elite if Romney wins. I will never, ever vote Dem, but I refuse to participate in the suicide of Conservatism.

There is no viable third party unfortunately. A vote for a third party candidate always elects a Rat. The country cannot afford it this time. We HAVE to win this one.

One other thought. Don’t blame Romney for gaming the system in MA. He did whatever it took to win. He fooled them at the Rat’s own game. Think about it.

We hear these same four sentences election after election after election as the squishy, establishment candidate is shoved down our throats.

I'm not playing anymore.

We have thought about it.

That's exactly what we want, right? Somebody who is adept at fooling folks and doing whatever it takes to win.

I'm not sure if you were actually trying to talk up Romney, or if you just forgot the < sarcasm > tag.

I'm from MA too. I'm for Newt Gingrich Too. Except all the way. The facts are too numerous for me to pass off - Rotney is Lieberal, and not worthy as a conservative nominee.

We HAVE to win this one.

Then we'd damned well better have a candidate. Newt or Rick need to drop, I care not which.

Asked at a news conference if he’d like to respond to Romney’s comments calling Obama the “most feckless president since Carter,” Obama said: “Good luck tonight.”

After the quip got laughs from the press gallery, Obama smiled and said, “No, really. Really.”

At least 90% of Obama's strategy to win the next election is to smile a lot and be a real nice guy, also to bring up his family in loving, fatherly ways.

This persona being fed to the American public is planned, choreographed, practiced and executed daily. His campaign is not about issues but about what a nice guy he is and what a nice smile he has. "He seems confident and relaxed and cheerful so he must have everything under control even if we don't understand it" is the result they hope to get in the minds and hearts of Americans who, they hope, will then unwittingly vote for him.

If conservatives are going to run against him we had better find ways to shatter this contrived persona because this very possibly might be right where it is at. While we are busy going on about issues, he is busy winning naive hearts. Somehow we must address issues and MUST also find ways to run against his supposed, manufactured "wonderfulness" if we are to win the next election.

If I thought that he was really Mr. Clean, Nice and Wonderful I wouldn't object but I pretty well know that it is packaging. He has a PR guy who left him for awhile and Obama faltered badly when he was gone. The PR guy (don't remember his name) knows how to package him and make him seem all American etc. I hope that fellow leaves again as Obama is lost without him.

Somehow the Republicans need to understand where the battle lines are drawn and stop fighting windmills. It is with the hearts and emotions of far too many media fed, emotionally driven Americans citizens and they vote. Issues are important to many, but persona is far too important to way too many dumbed down media fed Americans. We have got to keep working at getting this important election molding information to those who direct our campaigns so they can begin to take apart his oh so wonderful but fake persona.
