Government Greed vs. Charities

For the fourth time, the President has proposed limiting charitable deductions. The clearly intended result would be a massive transfer of money from the voluntary sector of society into government. Tocqueville warns, "our quarrel is not about the value of freedom per se, but stems from our opinion of our fellow men … a man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him"

The President wants to cut charitable deductions for the same reason he wants to hike taxes: more money and power for the central government, less for you.

Our church is big and we do a lot of good things - feed the poor, have a addiction outreach and ministry, serve the community. After Katrina we served 100,000 people with hot meals, clothes, medical help and groceries for several months. We served over 200,000 hot meals during that time and all for free. Other churches helped of course. And we did all this from the parking lot of our building which had been destroyed. My point is that Christians are very giving and will give even though their money is no longer tax deduct able. But, others will think twice about donating. Conservatives are the biggest givers while liberals like to spend and give OUR money and are very vocal about helping humanity except, they are quite stingy when it comes to manning up to a situation or charity. Obama wants complete government control - Chavez style - slowly taking over every aspect of our lives. People, including lock step liberals, better wake up because we will be feeding from the same trough,

I coordinate home deliveries on Thanksgiving. When some of my conservative friend stated helping out we talked about what it would look like if the government got involved. Well, first. All the delivery drivers would have to be Union and of course get Thanksgiving off. That settles that doesn’t it?

The President is unAmerican and unChristian with this move.

The reason why liberals are so powerful, is because they spend precious little on charity so all their donations goes to political power.

Can you imagine if the same percent of conservative donations to charities went to political power?

There is more to it to the Left than that.

Depending on private citizens’ charitable contributions is ‘risky’. They might donate to some organizations that are not on gubmint pre-approved list.

THEY know best. Just remember that.

Thanks for relating your story. Your experience with churches is the same as mine. I also agree with you about government control and the desire for power.

An aspect of it all is that government wants people to feel about government the way they feel about themselves when being generous. It is all part of the collective mindset.

Government is a collective monolith. You and I, though, are individuals and taking action on our own enhances our satisfaction in self-responsibility and Christian morality. Those are the enemies of the Marxists and must be destroyed if the Marxists are to succeed.

I think, but I do not know, that FR is making some equipment changes which delay things. Regardless, I like your take on things.
