Video: Gingrich Senior Advisor Randy Evans Explains Delegate Math (Karl Rove Gets Schooled)
newt.org ^ | March 7, 2012 | Rabdy Evans

On Fox News, Randy Evans outlines Newt’s path forward and breaks down the delegate math, which shows 2/3 of delegates are still available.

Brett Baier - We thought we'd have a battle of the white boards here. First to you Randy. How does Speaker Gingrich get this nomination? How do you plan to say you can have the number of delegates?

Randy Evans - Well Brett, lets start with two things first is that this idea that somehow the nomination is over. That somehow nobody can get the number now or that governor Romney has it. Lets look at this board here that Karl would appreciate. Three big numbers, one is Texas with 152 delegates; Eight winner take all states, 382, but the big number is 503 delegates who are not bound. Basically, you have a 1,000 delegates, a 1,000 delegates that are in play and those are in play all across the country, and they are at play in terms of Texas in big numbers.

Yes, even most of the Indian nations are southern in origins. The Choctows and Chickasaws, went on hunting expeditions on the Red River. right to the cross timbers that mark the limits of the Great Plains. Which is one reason they ended up there after removal. But definitely, the Southeast is as southern as northeast Texas

“Oklahoma is part of the original southern or Dixie states.”

Wow! Now that’s what I call a Sooner!

Sorry, but I grew up in the south right on the NC border and the dress, food, culture in Oklahama is not southern. They do appear more western imo.
The southeastern part of the state has a little southern flair but the further west and north you go..it is gone.

Little Ricky wont ever be president..take that to the bank.

Look, you may consider Oklahoma to be a southern state and in the south east section there is a little flair but they do not talk or dress like the folks in the south and western and Northern Oklahoma do not feel southern at all in their culture.
You get a tad snippy lol is that a yankee attitude?...say what you want..the folks I have met from Oklahoma do not have southern drawls
Santorum should drop out and support the only true conservative in this race...NEWT

“Oklahoma is a Southern State. You don’t know what the hell you are talking about.”

You're either not an Okie (I am) or OK quit teaching OK History in junior high school. Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona are the Southwest. Radically different history and culture than the South. Don't mean the difference as a negative, just the fact it is different. You get a duh...

A “Yankee attitude?” I thought we were all Americans, but I guess some of us aren’t.

Little Newt lost the great Southern state of Oklahoma, and he won’t win another one after Georgia.

I’ve encountered people on FR who call Newt a “pig” for having affairs while seperated from his former wives.

That is very narrow minded, in my opinion.

Oklahoma is a Southern State. You don’t know what the hell you are talking about.
*****************
I don’t want to get into a big argument here.

However, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas are considered to be Mid-South States (and there are many businesses that use that term). Oklahoma is a Prairie State, like MO, KS, NB, etc.

Texas is not a Southern State. Only East Texas is considered Southern, like LA, MS, AL and GA. The rest of Texas is usually referred to as Southwest.

Newt won SC, Georgia and came in 2nd in Fla. Sorry but Oklahoma was indian territory during the civil war. Not even a state yet. Not exactly a place I would envision southern belles sitting under a magnolia tree. Always have and always will view it as a western state.

OK did not become a state until 1907. It is partly southern and partly midwestern in orientation. It was part of AR Territory prior to 1834. It is more like TX than any of its other neighbors.

Yes and then one poster dared to tell me I wasn’t a true Christian! And that was a Santorum supporter.

Shades of Torquemada in the Spanish Inquisition. As a Christian I was always told to believe in forgiveness with actual remorse and change of deeds.

Fortunately you and I can't be tortured (yet) because some dumbass pronounces us not a "true" Christian.

To be fair, I haven't yet heard Santorum himself pronounce who is and who isn't a "true Christian".

It may be the recently observed phenomenon of supporters driving away their candidate's potential voters with their own personal vitriol and spite and, as a Newt supporter, I hope it does exactly that!

It will, because it goes to the very heart of the person’s deepest most important value of their life with Christ.

I haven’t heard Santorum say any such thing either. BUT, IF the supporters choose to put a knife in the heart of a poster’s relationship with Christ, IT IS BEING READ by more then the poster they cut and it doesn’t bode well to the readers.

(I told that poster the very same thing.)

As a neighbor to OK, KS, we were framed by Southern-leaning sympathizers MO and OK, on our East and South, so even though I always thought of OK like TX to be the beginning of the West, I'm wrong.

I guess OK is what the people who live there think it is.

“You may want to change your thinking. Oklahoma is part of the original southern or Dixie states.”

It depends on your frame of reference. When you are playing ‘Cowboys and Indians’, Oklahoma is a western state. If you are coming from a Civil War POV, you get a different answer. If you are looking at are looking at it geographically, you get a third answer.

That is why there are so many disparate opinions.

Wow! Now that’s what I call a Sooner!”

Well, even though I’m a Texas, I did go to school at OU long ago when it was a true football power - so go Boomer Sooner’s! Others say that it depends on the context of your discussion as to whether Oklahoma is a southern state or not. The one thing I will have to say is that I never had grits with my eggs while living in Oklahoma so for some that might be yet another criteria for determining whether they are southern folks or not. Nor were there many plantations. Perhaps we could say that Oklahoma is a southern state but not a Deep South state. Regardless, it is a great State with an awesome Governor!

I DO want to get into a big argument on this point. If you’re not from Oklahoma you can be forgiven for not knowing the history, sociology and geography of my state. But if you are from here there is no excuse for the colossal ignorance of believing Oklahomans aren’t Southern.

Geographically Oklahoma is a South-Central state. We are in the western South as compared to the eastern South. We are Southwesteners but we aren’t like folks in Arizona or most of New Mexico. When I go out there people ask me where in the South I’m from. We are also different from the folks in most of Kansas and Nebraska.

Linguistically Oklahomans speak a dialect of Southern English. See this Wikipedia article which is close enough for our purposes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_English_%28American%29

The largest church group by membership in Oklahoma is the Southern Baptists.

If you study the early US Census records for the Twin Territories and the State of Oklahoma you will find that a big majority of the early white settlers and even more of the native Indian population came from the Southeastern United States. My own family is a good example of this migration pattern. My parents (like me) were born and raised in Oklahoma. My grandparents (except for one born in Indian Territory) came here from Arkansas and Alabama. My great grandparents came from Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and the Carolinas. I don’t see a Northern state in that list.

Where I live the topography, vegetation, wildlife and climate are very similar not to the areas to the west but to the areas extending east to the Atlantic Ocean. At one point 100 years or so ago Oklahoma was one of the major cotton producing states and many of the agricultural practices here were identical to the other cotton belt states.

Geographically, linguistically, culturally, historically, and climatologically Oklahoma is a Southern State.

One final thought: Newt’s massive ego can only help Romney.

Historically Oklahoma was indian territory during the civil war. Yes, Okies are different from folks from Nebraska, New Mexico and very different from the folks in NC., SC., Alabama and Mississippi.

Santorum is a pious fraud..he talks the talk but he does not walk the walk. He is not worthy enough to shine Newt's shoes

Oh, O.K. ....Understand that I was referring to history and geography, not how people consider themselves to be.

If you want to call OK a South-Central state that’s alright with me.

I’m in North Central Texas (DFW area) and we’re not considered to be the South, but if you folks up North of us want to call yourselves Southerners instead of Sooners it’s o.k. with me. Your neighbors in Arkansas consider themselves to be a mid-South state.

I understand why so many ancestral roots in OK are from the Southeast US. There was the forced Trail of Tears and the open land grab events (thus the name Sooners).

Before the Civil War cotton was one of the major cash crops in the Indian Nations. The Southeastern tribes in Oklahoma during that time all had black slaves. The Chickasaws and Choctaws were united with the Confederacy and actually sent a delegation to the Confederate Congress. The other tribes weren’t as united but they all raised troops for the Confederacy. The last Confederate General Officer to surrender at the end of the war was the Cherokee Stand Watie.

Granted the war was on a smaller scale than in the east but many battles were fought in what is now Oklahoma. In northern Oklahoma it was more like what was going on in northwestern Arkansas and Missouri in that it was a guerrilla war. Families split with fighting on both sides. I had at least six or seven direct ancestors in the Confederate Army and at least one in the Union Army. The Union soldier was in the First Arkansas Cavalry and had two brothers in the Confederate Army. In at least one battle I had great grandfathers on both sides of the fight.

At family reunions you can put all my Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma relatives together and not realize which ones came from which state.

I’ll never get over seeing Newt sitting at Pelosi’s side lecturing us about “man-made” global warming. That says it all. The only reason (besides ego) why Newt is staying in the race is to throw it to Romney.
