Rick's Missing Message
The American Spectator ^ | March 8, 2012 | Ross Kaminsky

Posted on 03/08/2012 4:45:55 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

....SenatorSantorum's other reference [to jobs] hits a level of self-absorption that even the patrician Mitt "I'm not worried about the very poor" Romney has not, at least when taken in context, come close to reaching:

"Karen and I have seven children, ages 20 to three, not exactly the best time to be out running for president of the UnitedStates. We've given up our -- our jobs. We're living off our savings. Yeah, we're making a little sacrifice for a very, very big goal…"

Yes, during his Tuesday evening speech, RickSantorum's only mention of someone losing a job was about him and his wife voluntarily giving up whatever they were doing.....

Talking about "living off our savings," something many unemployed Americans only wish they had as a fall-back position, also struck a discordant note from the Republican most trying to portray himself as a "man of the people."

Note to Rick: It was your choice to have seven children. (We certainly cannot question your opposition to contraception.) Don't use them as an excuse for your financial woes; we don't want to hear it, especially while you drag them around the country like a traveling circus act.

Other important issues during this campaign season include debt (Romney mentions: 3, Santorum:0), unemployment (Romney 3, Santorum0), economy (Romney 9, Santorum 1), tax (Romney 9, Santorum0) and perhaps the biggest threat to the economy, Obama (Romney 9, Santorum 2).

.....Instead of drifting from economics to birth control to the size of government to being a fighter, instead of complaining about being outspent, his own "sacrifices," or the unfairness of having opponents who won't do him the courtesy of dropping out (when he selfishly wouldn't do the same for them), Rick Santorum needs to get a message -- any message -- and stick with it...

Santorum lacks a message because he lacks intellect.

That's a first!...Rick Santorum has been called many things on this very forum....

...but I've never read that he lacks intellect?????---How in the world can you say that????.

Obviously you never listen to him, or read his articles or listen to his wife...

The man is brilliant

He can addess any topic with intelligence and accuracy.

Even when he's dodging reporters 'gotcha questions'...he answers gracefully and truthfully.

I would vote for Newt in the general but absolutely would be ecstatic if Santorum becomes our President. However, you need to figure out how to get people to vote for Newt. That is his major problem. Nobody wants to vote for him. You take out SC and GA which will go Republican anyway and Newt has practically zero votes. That is a big problem that you guys never discuss. Again I wish Newt luck but man does he have a problem attracting votes.

When I see the family paraded about, I always wonder about Bella. Where is she— other than a pin on his shirt, a blurb at the end of a campaign brochure (Dad to Bella)

It makes me wonder if they are spending time with her, she has limited time, doesn’t she? I would think they would want to have every second they could with her.

I also never liked Santorums answer about what he would change at the WhiteHouse, he said they would need to add on rooms for his seven kids. Joke or not, I didn’t appreciate it.

Weill I’ll vote Santorum in the general if it comes to that too - and I don’t disagree with you on Newt’s campaign. They have made some very bad decisions - which has played into Santorum’s hands in a lot of ways.

First was Bain Capital, when Mitt (and Rick by the way) were piling onto Newt in Iowa.

Newt’s decision makers (and Newt himself) decided to skip Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri for typical inside the beltway reasons (very few official delegates, etc) So did Mitt.

Santorum went, won them, even though the total vote count for all three states combined was less than SC by itself - he got “credit” in the public’s mind for “three state wins.”

It was vapor — and the key word WAS. It is not vapor anymore. He did parlay that into much more momentum than it should have gotten him. But it worked.

The problem is - this is no way to win the general. All of these states, except SC, have had low turn outs. Tennessee was about even on turn out, and that is Santroum’s best win IMO. Mitt’s scorched earth and Santorum’s niche politics are winning now, but neither strategy can possibly win in Nov.

That comment about “adding on” to the White House is so telling in so many ways if you analyze it. But I won’t go there now.....except to say that it’s related to the point this article was making on the jobs non comments.

You are hitting pretty low.....do you really want to go there?

Karen Santorum is not as often on the campaign scene...(ask any reporter) because as heart of the family she is home with the younger children and little Bella.

And they have round the clock nursing which they pay out of pocket....because of Bella's special needs.

Santorum is a joke.......When ever he steps up to the podium to blabber on about himself, even the dog leaves the room. He talks on and on, about mostly himself or platitudes that even he does not fully understand.

Obama will humiliate him if he survives the primary. (But he won't, so, not to wonder.)

So I’m not a Christian because I don’t support Rick Santorum? Is that your meaning with “ but you seem to not have eyes to see or ears to hear?”

I know the Lord Jesus Christ as my King. And I don’t support Rick Santorum, period.

That is scary. Does it make me nervous that we are going to pick the wrong candidate. Heck yeah. I swear if Newt is the guy to win the general, I would be behind him immediately. He just has to win AL AND MS, but he also needs to win some states outside the state. This is why I know he loves Ronald Reagan because he is following Reagan’s Southern Strategy of 1976, but Reagan did not get enough delegates because he did not get enough outside the South. Newt is doing the same thing which is fine, but going outside the South is crucial and Kansas would have been an outstanding opportunity, but alas he has decided not to compete there either. Anyway good luck Newt in AL and MS.

I’ll tell you what is scary. It is scary that you and I are agreeing so much. The Kansas strategy on his part is huge mistake. I am somewhat on the inside, and everything I have predicted since November has come true.

Unfortunately, almost none of my advice given with those predictions was taken.

The huge difference between now and Reagan’s day, is now the tiny states count “just as much” because they change people’s minds for the upcoming states. Santorum has proven that strategy. He was considered the serious challenger to Romney at a point when he had less than half of Newt’s raw votes because while RS didn’t have many total votes, he had a “bunch of states.”

People watch Fox News and see “number of states” and they are largely ignorant to populations and certainly ignorant to what a caucus is versus a primary versus a non binding primary.

But if you and I are agreeing, there’s hope.....

Well said!

Santorum is the man! And I don’t feel the need to be disrespectful of the other candidates in order to praise him. Why have so many here taken to stooping to such vile attacks? Sometimes, I think I am reading the words of the leftists.
