When President Obama talks about today's sky-high gasoline prices, he almost always laments that there's little anyone can do in the short term to bring them down.
"There is no silver bullet" is his common refrain, one he used again at his press conference on Tuesday.
But as gasoline prices reach historic highs they've shot up more than 28 cents a gallon in just the past month the government could make a dent.

IBD and John the author need to understand the “government” does not care about the burden it puts on its citizens.

Eric Bolling of Fox news worked for years in the oil industry. He said you could drop the price of gas by $1 a gallon instantly by mandating just one blend nationwide.

Yes, you can't keep prices down by having every state eco-nut mandating different gas.

The regional blends are NOT state mandates. They are EPA mandates. Federal.

Yeah and drill off all the coasts, approve the pipeline, fracking etc.. Get government out of the way and eliminate the EPA. Obama has banned offshore drilling , the pipeline, shale, fracking , coal power plants etc. And Obama is piling on 5 trillion more in debt on us.

In which case, closing the EPA would automatically save us 1 dollar per gallon.
Sounds like a good Republican commercial.

6) Collapse the oil trading futures market
(at least it would work in the short term...within a few months we’d all be bidding-up bicycles on eBay)
Personally this is the avenue I expect Barry to pursue.

#6- End margins on oil trading. You buy the oil, you pay full price
#7- Require purchasers to take delivery. You bought the oil, you take it. Hope you have a garage.

Several suggestions get government out of the way as you and I both want.
In particular if we went to just one blend of gasoline (eliminate epa mandate). If we no longer had to put ethanol in the gas (eliminate ethanol mandate). If govt would allow the private sector to build the keystone xl pipeline. Even dropping down the federal gas tax on every single gallon of gas where the govt takes in 8 times as much as the oil companies do, would be getting government out of the way, as higher taxes retard/prevent/punish use of whatever’s taxed, lower taxes are the opposite.

This right here is the solution. Speculation isn’t necessarily a problem. The fact that speculation entails very little risk is, however, and these are two excellent solutions to the problem.

Pardon my ignorance, but by “blends” do you mean the regular/super-regular/extra-regular division?

Daily Fuel Gauge Report Check out the E85 MPG/BTU adjusted price. That could easily change by dropping that ethanol subsidy going to ADM.

No, Winter blends, Summer blends. I think also blends for the northern states and the southern states as the eastern and western states
