Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 227,000 in February, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment rose in professional and businesses services, health care and social assistance, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and mining.

Bullish!
It is. The whole GOP economic argument for unseating Obama is losing steam as well. Not that these numbers are true or accurate, but they’re solidfying the narrative that Obamunism is the light.
You can’t spell “BLS” without “BS.”
Just like Joe Biden's summer of recovery.
Just wait till around September. The economy will be EXPLODING and the rate will said to be at 6.9%
Mark my word.
Just once...is there any department in this administration that can tell the truth? These numbers will be adjusted down the road to minimize their impact, ad nauseum.
How can this possibly be reconciled with the Gallup figures?
Had to chuckle watching Chris Wallace on F&F touting the report as good news for Obama, yada yada yada.
Then, Eric Bolling pointed out that the report showed a lack of jobs created in construction and manufacturing, while most of the ‘new’ jobs were in services [as in hamburger flippers and other low pay, entry level type jobs].
==
Stuart Varney talking about this being a ‘modest’ recovery. Not a good rate at this stage of the recovery. Record higest deficit ever — meaning that the debt ceiling will probably have to be raised by the end of the year.
==
[Bolling pointed out that zero jobs were created in construction industry. So much for all those infrastructure, shovel ready, and similar jobs the $Trillions of dollars in new debt were supposed to create.]
Since Repub Politicians are dumb you are probably correct. Though a smart Politician would point out the 10 foot list of job killing policies / regulations the Kenyan has pushed through. The reoccurring theme should be “The economy is slowly recovering in spite of Obama, not because of him”
Of course they will..especially if the Fed times the QE3 to goose things for the loser-in-chief. I still believe the market makers/hedgies timed the tanking of the market just in time to get him elected. Now that he’s pissed them off, it may go the other way...but ther are a lot of bs’ers on his side with the media..and Treasury. He stll has a lot of tools at his disposal to sway the dense voters.
Check & check! They already have both!
Why is that? These numbers are not good, I know mr obama is graded on a curve but not this curved
You need to be careful with the word, “real.” Shrinking a package’s size is one way a producer can hide a price increase, but the BLS still counts it as inflation.
Mark my word."
You are correct. Control the media and the government information releases and you control the message. The Ministry of Truth is in charge.
So they are manipulating the numbers and having the msm repeat the lie. Did anyone expect anything less on any front? But here is the thing. You think that the 19.1% underemployed is going to watch Wallace or Matthews or whoever and say “screw reality, everything is just fine because the media says so!!!”. Stories don’t pay the bills.
Blue smoke and mirrors. Telling Americans who have it bad that they don’t ain’t gonna fly.
But where will they assign the blame? Obama, Congress, the Republicans, oil companies, bankers, sunspots...that’s what concerns me.
Far too many people alive today would rather bring the world crashing down around them than admit they were wrong.
Are you sure? They can get pretty darn curvy!
Consider that last month the total workers engaged in working declined by... 1,200,000 workers. If that ain't a curvy curve, I don't know what is [is]!
I think you meant to direct your comment to someone else.
They are already doing that:
1. They give unenemployment checks for nearly 2 years.
2. They take discouraged workers off the numbers if those people have provably looked for a job in ONE MONTH.
So, you get paid to sit on your butt, and because you’re sitting on your butt your number doesn’t count.
“NFP Prints At 227K On Expectations Of 210,000, Unemployment Rate At 8.3% Boosted By Temp Jobs”
“...Professional and business services added 82,000 jobs in February. Just over half of the increase occurred in temporary help services (+45,000).” Also, that Birth Death added 91K is also taking away from the lustre of the headline which is diamtetrically opposite of what Gallup found yesterday.”
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/nfp-prints-227k-expectations-210000-unemployment-rate-83
If the economy adds about 208,000 jobs per month, which was the average monthly rate for the best year of job creation in the 2000s, then it will take until March 2024over 12 yearsto close the jobs gap. Given a more optimistic rate of 321,000 jobs per month, which was the average monthly rate for the best year of job creation in the 1990s, the economy will reach pre-recession employment levels by February 2017not for another five years.
227,000 jobs a month is barely treading water. Hell, we bring in 125,000 LEGAL foreign workers a month now. If anyone thinks that 8.3% unemployment (closer to 9% if you believe Gallup) and 227,000 jobs a month guarantees Obama a second term, then you must be an Obamabot hooked on his hope and change rhetoric.
LOL. You can't be serious. Do you think that most people will buy the WH spin or believe their own lyin' eyes. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. 227,000 jobs a month is barely treading water. It will be more than 12 years before we reach pre-recession levels of unemployment. This is the weakest recovery since the end of WWII.
And there are more shoes to drop in Europe, a slowing economy in China, rising gas prices and possible conflict with Iran, reaching our debt ceiling now in September or October rather than the expected January 2013, and the largest February deficit in history topping the previous one of 2011. I really can't believe that people believe that these numbers are good. Stop drinking the Obama Kool-aid.
The average voter will lap it up.
Watch this. Obama voters interviewed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_JJLLfTR8I&feature=related
BS. 50% of the American people believe Obama's presidency to be a failure. Why do people seemingly ignore what happened in 2010, the most historic midterms since 1938? In 2006 when the Dems regained control over Congress, it was obvious that 2008 would spell big trouble for Reps. It was a harbinger of things to come, yet the pundits and others seem to think that 2010 was meaningless or just an aberration. I think they will be just as surprised in 2012 as they were in 2010.
The real indication of Obama's electability will be how many Dem candidates will want to be seen with him on the campaign trail. Nelson of Florida avoided Obama when he was recently in FL. Let's see how many of the 24 Dem senators up for reelection in 2012 want Obama to campaign for them.
If you use non-seasonally adjusted numbers, and take the BLS U-6 number [which includes under employed], then add back those not in the civilian labor force who want a job, you come close to Gallup’s 19.1% unemployment number.
Yes, thanks for the correction!
I know mr obama is graded on a curve but not this curved
Are you sure? They can get pretty darn curvy!
Consider that last month the total workers engaged in working declined by... 1,200,000 workers. If that ain't a curvy curve, I don't know what is [is]!
Hey, I sincerely hope you’re right. I tend to be pretty cynical.
Yes... they'll buy the WH spin. Remember, Obama doesn't actually have to achieve success.. just the appearance of it. WE know the numbers are cooked with "seasonal adjustment special sauce;" WE understand it's the weakest recovery since the end of WWII. The conservative movement here at FR and beyond understand all that.
However...
Backed by nearly all "media," Obama has a hold on American voters that transcends policy matters. He drew them into an emotional attachment with vague rhetoric about Hope and Change. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't have a high degree of confidence the American electorate will turn on him that quickly. That requires a self-admission of fault and Americans don't readily admit they're wrong. The most recent polls still show majorities of Americans still -- laughably -- blame Bush for the country's economic ills.
I never drank the damned Kool-aid, but 63 million voters did in 2008. Come November, we'll know whether whatever drug that laced it has worn off.
“The civilian labor force participation rate, at 63.9 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at 58.6
percent, edged up over the month. “
These are the most important single statistics as they tell how many people are living off of the labors of those that are working. Doesn’t matter why the nonworkers aren’t working. A bunch aren’t working because they are retired or for other reasons unrelated to the state of the economy.
Also, automation puts people out of work.
The “unemployment rate” fiddle faddles with the definition of who’s “unemployed”.
In the final analysis, a society becomes unhealthy when too few workers are supporting too many nonworkers.
Only on paper. They will lie. That is why they are late with the govt. figures by one full week and are also afraid of internal leaks of the bad numbers before they have a chance to re-doe them and re-rig them on director orders from the Assistants to the President for Domestic Policy at the White House, as well as Treasury. Oh yeah, it will all look good on paper with the media covering it up and not digging, all through the Fall, but in talking with people in your neighborhood or family, you will nothing has changed for the good. With Mussolini reelected, watch for the numbers to be revised back to reality ASAP, and pleas that we we need another four years of Obama to fix them over this “long process”, and then another four years for VP Biden to continue the effort. They lied through their teeth about “Hope” and “Change” eight years ago.
Buy the spin? Pure unadulterated BS. What happened in 2010? The American people are not buying the spin. You can piss on people's legs and tell them it is raining outside, but that doesn't change the facts or their perception except for the Obamabots who are far from being a majority

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't have a high degree of confidence the American electorate will turn on him that quickly. That requires a self-admission of fault and Americans don't readily admit they're wrong. Obama benefited from a "historic" election. He now has a record. Been there, done that. We have had our first affirmative action President, now it is time for competence. The American people don't want four more years of the same. In fact, they realize that the very survival of the country is at stake. Four more years of Obama and it is game, set, and match for this Republic.
If you buy Bobo's numbers. I don't.
Want REAL, believable numbers? Go to Gallup.
They can spin these numbers anyway they want to! Folks WILL vote their
own pocketbooks. Every time I grocery shop I am in shock!!! Women who
do the shopping KNOW their dollars are NOT going very far!!! This is one
thing they can not lie about each individual KNOWS THEIR OWN financial
situation and will vote accordingly they can spin, spin, spin, it will not
work!!!
There are over 2 million more than a year ago “not in the labor force”. Gone, just gone!
The participation rate is still .3% less than it was a year ago. Gone, just gone!
Add those components back to where it was a year ago and I guarantee the Unemployment Rate will be exactly where it was a year ago, 9%.
I have found by and large that FReepers who don't 'get' what you've just eloquently stated, are from states under 7.5%. They haven't been unemployed, and they don't directly know someone who is. It's still 2005 wherever they are.
Those of us in states at 8.5% or 10% or even higher, it's reality -- you have a good friend or immediate family member who has been unemployed (and who you have helped) for a year or longer during the Bobo administration.
From BLS Frequently asked questions,
“Are undocumented immigrants counted in the surveys?
It is likely that both surveys include at least some undocumented immigrants. However,
neither the establishment nor the household survey is designed to identify the legal
status of workers. Therefore, it is not possible to determine how many are counted in
either survey. The establishment survey does not collect data on the legal status of
workers. The household survey does include questions which identify the foreign and
native born, but it does not include questions about the legal status of the foreign
born.”
Landscape Season!!!
I’m with you friend!!! It never fails to amaze me, how many posting Freepers totally collapse, crater and give in when led over the cliff by a lamestream media that is losing creditablilty with each passing day. Let me remind you folks of something. if the government monthly numbers are under 250,000 jobs created, it means no growth!!! Why did the 8.3% unemployment not drop this month? Because, more people are looking for work as their unemployment checks disappear. This situation will only get worse as the year goes on. And...we are beginning to see a downtick in hiring at the same time as gas prices continue to rocket upward!!! This economy is going nowhere, fast, and the experts know it. So.....when some stupid Obama boot licker tells you everything is coming up rosy, you are the fool if you believe that false spin!!!
Sad & sickening.....that so many Freepers are drinking the Kool-Aid of the lamestream media. You naysayers and negative folks better get with the program. Read my lips, Obama hates America, his only purpose is to bring the country down!!! If you weakknees lose heart and action, we all be slaves bowing before “Comrade Obama”!!! Wise up and get on the attack instead of crying in the corner!!! The future of our country is at stake during this upcoming election!!! Just one Freeper’s opinion!!!
They added an additional 13,000 temp jobs in one month.
Where did these all come from?
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.b.htm
They can make up "employment" numbers, but they can't make up state personal income tax revenue numbers. Which most states release monthly, BTW. :-)
Capiche?

Let’s not fall into the trap of buying into the Obama-worshiping media narrative here... An 8.3% unemployment rate absolutely SUCKS and is STILL higher than the 7.8% rate when Obama took office over three years ago. It continues to be the longest period of 8%+ unemployment since the Great Depression. There are TWO MILLION FEWER JOBS available in the labor force today than then and even more millions of Americans out of work. No matter how hard the media tries to LIE about the economy getting better, it’s not going to fool the average American who continues to struggle financially. Therefore, the GOP still has EVERY REASON to go after Obama over the economy.
Gotta keep 2010 in perspective though. What happened then was conservatives enraged by Obama's policies and storming to the polls in disproportionate numbers to do something about it. The minorities and dependent classes will be in the game at a far higher percentage this time around.
The fact 49.5% of Americans don't pay federal income taxes -- and liking it that way -- isn't "spin." It's a clear fact that anyone who runs for high office in opposition of that is going to have the ball and chain of voter self-interest holding them down.
That's a great metric re: the food stamps... but as I said earlier, Bush still gets the majority of the blame.
I'm not convinced Americans are wanting to break free of it, and I disagree most realize the urgency of the situation. They simply don't view the world as we do. Four more years of Obama and it is game, set, and match for this Republic.
I completely agree with that statement. I wish more Americans did, too.
I predict that when someone from the BLS finally talks about the blatant manipulation of the numbers it will be ignored or chuckled at by the media.
