If you thought cafeteria food was gross before....

Joann Smith, the USDA bureaucrat who approved use of Pink Slime, and later joined the board of directors of the maker of Pink Slime, served under Bush I. So it really IS Bush’s fault. The Leftist media is loudly noting this fact.

Back in my Summer camp days (late 1960s), we were served some sort of foamy looking dessert.

I can't remember the name, but looking back, it was probably a would-be competitive offering against Jell-O. (Camps were probably targeted with great deals in order to hit the palettes of kids, hoping to create the demand that way...)

I remember the green (Lime), but I'm pretty sure it came in pink (Strawberry) as well.

As such, the look of it prompted much jocularity at the end of dinner.

You know, the federal government needs to step in and and really monitor what is being served to our children. Someone should tell the First Lady.

End sarcasm.

The government OKs feeding this “crap” to school kids, but let Mom make them a healthy lunch at home and send it with their kid to school and government inspectors will confiscate it make the kids eat this. The quickest way to end the practice of adding pink slime to food ...have some imam declare it to be haraam and unfit for consumption by Muslims. Given our political correct society pink slime would be instantly banned least it offend some Muslim.

When I was in school during the Carter Administration he pulled some sort of bailout of the turkey farmers, and we had processed, reconstituted, breaded deep-fried turkey patties for school lunch 3 days out of 5 for a year an a half.

In every conceivable way, Obama is Carter 2.0

Considering that the taxpayers pay for it to feed other peoples' offspring, I'm all for serving them garbage. The only thing better would be to have THEIR *%&*ing parents pay for their own kids $#**ing lunches. But of course, this isn't the American way.

Wasn't it Jefferson who said "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need?" Oh Wait, that was MARX not Jefferson. Isn't it a great country where anyone can spawn out a kid and force someone else to pay for it?

Here is an article that states how one can avoid this slime yet still eat beef.
http://www.eatlikenoone.com/what-is-pink-slime-beef-how-to-avoid-it.htm

(And obviously one can avoid beef altogether) I hope ground turkey doesn’t have this in it.

Everyone should know the following

1. There is NO SUCH THING as "pink slime." What there is, is lean beef recovered from fat trimmings by a process of heating and separating in a centrifuge. Jamie Oliver's "demonstration" was a travesty. If you take ground beef, mix it with household cleaner grade ammonia and spin it in a dryer, you WILL get "pink slime," but this is NOT the process used by industry. Mr Oliver may be a decent chef, but he knows nothing about food processing or food safety!

2. The treatment with a few puffs of ammonia gas is just enough to temporarily raise the pH (alkalinity) about 1-1/2 points above its natural pH. Why is this done? Because it KILLS E. Coli bacteria! Do you think ABC will be willing to accept the responsibility for the deaths that will result from the next outbreak of E. Coli contamination?

3. The product of this process, which has been used for years, is lean beef, which is why the USDA doesn't require its being labeled as an "ingredient." To make up for the amount of beef that is recovered by this process from the fat trimmed off steaks, roasts, etc., would require the slaughter of an additional 1.5 million head of cattle. Does anyone think this is a good idea?
