Five Taliban detainees held at the Guantanamo Bay military prison have agreed to be transferred to Qatar, a move Afghanistan believes will boost a nascent peace process, President Hamid Karzai's spokesman said on Saturday.
The transfer idea is part of U.S. efforts to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table to avoid prolonged instability in Afghanistan after foreign combat troops leave the country at the end of 2014.
"We are hopeful this will be a positive step towards peace efforts," Karzai's spokesman Aimal Faizi told Reuters, adding the Taliban detainees would be re-united with their families in Qatar if the transfer takes place.

Hey...wait a minute! Didn’t the great leader, nobama, say that guantanamo would be closed by 2010???? Wha’ happened? nobama lies?
Idiots.
And I can’t firgure out if Karzai is suicidal or so full of himself, that he thinks he’s immortal.
Once the Taliban are allowed to gain any power, they will kill him the first chance they get.
Well, Barack is doing that, in Qatar. Or you mean into the ocean or Cuba from Gitmo?
Yes.
Let em walk...
But how will this transfer effect the teams in the Gitmo Terrorist International Soccer League? They were hoping to field some strong teams in their brand new $750,000 soccer facility. /sarc

“Mohammed Fazl, a “high-risk” detainee alleged to be responsible for the killing of thousands of minority Shi’ite Muslims”
Only 5% of Qatar citizens are Shi’a. So the mutts will probably “escape” from prison. I was thinkin’ that if the country was mostly Shi’ite, they might not have a good time in prison.
Since when do prisoners get to choose where they will be held?
