A Marine Corps officer has filed a whistle-blower complaint with the Department of Defense alleging that he was retaliated against for voicing concerns about a commander who put U.S. troops in danger in Afghanistan.
Maj. Fred C. Galvin of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan, filed the complaint earlier this week through a former Fayetteville lawyer.
Galvin, a 24-year Marine Corps veteran, had been facing the potential end of his military career until Thursday.
That's when he went before a Marine Corps Board of Inquiry at Camp Butler, Japan.
The board was charged with determining if Galvin should be separated for "failing to demonstrate acceptable qualities of leadership ... failing to achieve or maintain acceptable standards of proficiency" and having a "record of marginal service."
Galvin's civilian lawyer, Mark Waple of Wilmington, said the three-person board unanimously ruled that the allegations were not substantiated.
Galvin is asking the Department of Defense's inspector general for a full investigation into events that occurred in Afghanistan in June. He alleges that Marines were needlessly put at risk one day that month by close supporting fire during a firefight.

By prissy college boy, I guess you mean this guy
This prissy college boy was Maj. Doug Zembiec. He was also known by his Marines as the Lion of Fallujah. He was an All American Wrestler as the U.S. Naval Academy and served in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was killed in combat in Iraq.
What the hell is that stupid friggin' statement supposed to mean? If you go to college and then lead men, you don't care about their lives? Grow up.
Your instincts are good but you're way off on this one.
The major is the good guy here. Marine Corps command is going right down the freaking toilet. What they did to the Hadithas Marines, for example, was a disgrace and an obscenity.

LH, you forgot the "Moron" tag.
Your comments are pretty “prissy”. Better to keep such comments to yourself.

From Private to Major
And yes, also a ‘college boy’.
I know- I misread it as a 24 year-old marine
The media usually does not cover a story where a Marine is the good guy.
I understand you meant ..doesn't look Gunny enough
But our battlefields from Saratoga to Franklin to the Marne and Belleau Wood to Normandy or Okinawa to the A Shau Valley and now to the middle east and near Asia prissy college boys wearing uniforms have died on your behalf

the OSS was almost entirely college boys

prissy college boys with the right soldiers under them can be an issue
Patton was a prissy college boy and Thomas J Jackson was a college boy and egads...a prissy college professor too
many 2nd lts start out green yes...but not all remain prissy
Didn’t I CLEARLY say I had not read the article? Your comment would have been useful AND constructive until you called me stupid.
The name calling was where you stepped over the line, for calling me stupid for doing exactly what I said I was doing.
I was trying to make a point that the MEDIA usually does not cover stories where a Marine is the GOOD GUY.
