Santorum not so strong with Pennsylvania folks Spending raises conservative doubts

HOUSTON — After a big win in Saturday’s Kansas caucuses, Rick Santorum is riding high almost everywhere but in his native Pennsylvania.

While Christian-right leaders such as James Dobson, Tony Perkins, Tom LeFever, Rebecca Hagelin and Richard Viguerie were holding a fundraiser in Texas for the former senator Friday, some in his hometown of Pittsburgh were expressing doubts about the candidate’s reliability as an advocate of small government and fiscal integrity.

“I guess you could say there’s a disconnect between Rick Santorum’s claim to be a small-government fiscal conservative and the Pittsburgh tunnel project he pushed for as a U.S. senator,” said Jack Brooks, a former top official in a powerful Pennsylvania trade union that backed Mr. Santorum’s failed Senate re-election bid in 2006.

Mr. Santorum, running a shoestring campaign to wrest the Republican nomination from front-runner Mitt Romney, has claimed to be “the true conservative” in the GOP race. Not surprisingly, his rivals on the national scene say he is anything but. A campaign ad by his rival, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, tags Mr. Santorum as a “fake fiscal conservative.”

Newt Gingrich, appearing on Fox News on Sunday, again questioned Mr. Santorum’s conservative bona fides.

That is just about every single Santos supporter, according to them we just don’t get it and have no clue as to what is really important!

Fact are meaningless to them - like this one

How would any reporter in Houston... be able to identify trends in Pennsylvania? A really stupid premise considering Rick is up 25 points or more in PA.

Absolute BS. Santorum is not an ideological liberal but he is not as conservative as Newt. You believe that then you have been bamboozled.

Santorum is a big government “compassionate conservative” with strong social conservative views. He is not now nor ever has been a small government & fiscal conservative.

He does not believe the simple credo that the government should get of of folks wallets and off their backs and never has.

The poll was from Feb. 18. Small college poll in Amish country.

“The survey of 278 Republican voters between Feb. 14 and Monday has a margin of error of 5.9 percentage points.”

Santorum is polling around 55% among republicans in his home state. That’s abysmal folks. Santorum could not get elected to any statewide office in PA and has zero chance of carrying it in a general election.

To get 55% of republican voters. Means you got about 15-18% general electorate support in PA. That is Not an infidication of Santorums strength its a complete indictment of his utter weakness.

Do you want to see him win so badly that it doesn’t matter if it’s only in your dreams? You posted this nonsensical poll on a thread of its own. It’s ridiculous and even borderline dishonest. ESPECIALLY in Lancaster.

He certainly SHOULD have won, with a field cleared of Newt with Romney money, leaving only Uncle Ron as the other ABR contestant.

All the cash in the scores of millions spent eviscerating Newt was a direct injection into the Santorum not-Romney campaign.

MestaMachine, that’s a misleading post. It’s not some Lancaster or Amish poll as you seem to imply. Here what it says:

“new statewide Franklin & Marshall College poll”

And Gingrich got thrashed in his own backyard by Santorum in TN and AK. I guess these folks know Gingrich “like the back of their hand.”

278 Republicans is a statewide poll? With a 6% margin of error? What?

I ain’t dissing Santorum here. I am questioning your fanaticism. It’s getting out of hand.

Speaking of fanaticism, go take a look at your own posts and see the hordes of anti-Santorum stuff you folks have been posting and the almost robotic adulation of Gingrich.

I have not really posted much about santorum until silly stuff like this shows up in front of my face. And I really haven’t posted that much about Newt either, for that matter. Neither have I LIED about either of them. Get a grip. You have a CA flag flying on your profile page. What the heck do YOU know about santorum? I LIVE here.

And, this is the state that continued to elect Murtha time and time again. I don’t put much credibility in their opinion of what is and isn’t conservative.

“Newt cannot win the nomination without teaming up with Rick “

I would be fine with that. But Santorum has endorsed and campaigned for Romney in 2008 and Santorum is an establishment politician. It is far more likely that Santorum will sell out to Romney for a VP slot.
