HOOVER, Ala. Newt Gingrich typically qualifies his insults on Republican presidential rival Rick Santorum: Hes a friend; they accomplished things together in Congress; hes an honorable man.
But Gingrich has opened up new and more aggressive lines of attack against Santorum in the past week as he seeks to top his former colleague in Tuesdays Mississippi and Alabama primaries.
When we had a team he was a good part of that team, Gingrich said Saturday night at a packed rally in Hoover, outside Birmingham. And when I left [after the 1998 election] balanced budgets disappeared, the deficit started going up, spending started going up. This is not the record thats going to beat Barack Obama.
Voters in both states will be able to size up the two men Monday, as they appear at a pair of forums though they are not scheduled to debate directly.
Santorum and Gingrich will both appear at a Gulf Coast Energy Forum in Biloxi, Miss., Monday morning an event in Gingrichs wheelhouse as he has honed in on domestic oil drilling and gas prices as his primary pitch. Monday night they will attend a forum in Birmingham hosted by the Alabama Republican Party...............
Polls show Gingrich leading or close to it in both Mississippi and Alabama, the two states where he has set up shop since Super Tuesday and where his campaign and an allied Super PAC have bought advertising time....

Can hear the collective bible-belt yawn from here.
The MSM cannot bear to write a headline that might give Newt one iota of wind at his back so they speak of his “last stand” and Romney’s strength.
The very idea of Newt holding the GOP’s feet to a conservative fire, and rolling back government, scares them to death.

I would like to compliment you on the way you present your candidate. You did such a great job for Perry and now for Newt. Much information and great enthusiasm!
Each following line will list the state name by its first 3-4 letters, the model I use to estimate the delegate breakdown( lib for liberal), total delegates allocated, and delegate shares designated with R for Romney, S for Santorum, and N for Newt.
(Based on delegate counts from Real Clear Politics which calculated Romney has 455, Santorum 199, and Newt 117 at the time I did this analysis.)
Ala.........Okla..............50..................16R................17S..................17N
Alabama is truly southern state, therefore, will vote like Oklahoma.

Hawaii is the same as DC.
Ill............lib....................69..................69R
Illinois is the most corrupted.
Ind..........Ohio...............46..................27R.............19S
Indiana is similar but slightly more conservative than Ohio.
Ken........Kan.................45..................8R................37S
Kentucky is like Kansas.
Loui.........Okla..............46..................15R..............15S..............16N
Louisiana is southern state, like Oklahoma.
Mary.........lib.................37..................37R
Maryland is liberal, WTA.
Miss.........Okla...............40.................13R................14S............13N
Mississippi is southern state, like Oklahoma.
Missou.....Tenn............. 52................15R.................27S.............10N
Missouri has more self-righteous Christians, like Tenn.
Mont.........Wyo.............26.................26R
Montana is far west state, like Wyoming, maybe some for Santorum due to more conservatism, but not much.
Neb...........Minn.............35................17R.................18S
Nebraska is more conservative of the far west, so I used Minnesota model.
NJ............lib..................50.................50R
NJ is liberal. WTA
NY..........lib..................95..................95R
NY is liberal, WTA at districts, so Newt can steal some here.
NC..........Okl............ .55..................25R................15S.............15N
NC is southern but more transient, therefore, more liberal, hybrid between Okla/Ohio.
Ore..........lib..................28..................28R
Oregon is liberal, like Washington.

South Dakota is far west state but conservative, I used Ohio model.

Total...................................................857R
Romney now has 455, needs to have 1,144 for nomination. With projected 857 delegates, he will have 455 + 857 = 1312 delegates.
I took into account state-wise and district winner-take-all options from most states. Of course I will miss some technicalities here and there but the whole picture does look gloomy.
Utmost, your thread got pulled and it says to excerpt to 50 percent of the content. Try it again!
It wasn’t my thread, I merely ran across it.
I hope Newt can retake 2nd place in Delegate counts, and generate enough momentum to at least, force a brokered convention. With both Newt and Santorum in the race, that greatly increases that possibility.
If Newt drops out, it will only give Romney the nomination faster, since the majority of Newt's votes will go to Romney. (Due to the voter preference over the Economy, Foreign Policy and Energy.) Santorum will retain the holy roller vote, which makes up about 30% of Newt's following.
Well, if it happens, he’s going to have to work for each and every one. But things happen in long campaigns.
Numbers are nice but reality is messy and people are unpredictable.
I see.
