Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is reportedly considering asking Texas Governor and former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich to join him on the campaign trail as a candidate for vice president.
According to Fox News, Gingrich aides are reportedly in talks with Mr. Perry about a potential Gingrich-Perry ticket, which would be announced before the Republican National Convention in August. Both representatives for Mr. Perry and Mr. Gingrich denied the reports, saying no such talks have taken place.
“While there’s certainly a lot of people who are great admirers of Rick Perry on our campaign. whether or not the campaign has gone as far as to reach out to Governor Perry about a possible VP ticket, any sort of talks along those lines would be premature — it would be something more appropriate for later on in the process,” said Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond in a statement.
“Gov. Perry thinks Newt Gingrich is the strongest conservative to debate and defeat President Obama and truly overhaul Washington,” said Perry spokeswoman Catherine Frazier in a statement. “The speculation is humbling but premature.”
Speculation over a joint Perry-Gingrich ticket comes as polls show Mr. Gingrich trialing his Republican rivals in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The Georgia Republican has struggled to unite his base of support, failing to challenge former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who is widely seen as the Republican front-runner.
The joint ticket would likely boost Mr. Gingrich’s appeal among the party’s more conservative base. Campaigning earlier this year, Mr. Perry was widely seen as appealing to voters interested in a candidate with a strong Christian background and experience at the state level. Mr. Perry, the longest serving governor in the history of Texas, often spoke about his faith while campaigning, telling supporters he would seek to use his faith when advocating for certain policies.
Still, the reports of Mr. Perry joining Mr. Gingrich remain little more than speculation. A number of political analysts have suggested that the rumors were little more than an attempt by the Gingrich campaign to boost support ahead of the Mississippi and Alabama primaries, which are slated to take place on Tuesday. Mr. Gingrich needs to win one, if not both, of Tuesday’s contests to remain credible, as the Rick Santorum presidential campaign is already ratcheting up the pressure for Mr. Gingrich to exit the race.

They would have a much harder time smearing Col. West. Sure they could dig up floozies from anywhere, but they would have to prove the bimbos had some connection to the military, Afghanistan or Iraq. You know how much the left hates joining the service, especially during war time.
Col. West would be perfect.
Newt was just on Hannity. He made a few good points.
1. Romney only wind where he outspends his opponents...and he will NOT be able to outspend Obama.
2. If Romney ends up having the most delegates...but not over half, he has not ‘won’ the nomination....and there will be a 60 day period between the last primary, and the convention, to sort it out.
I think what Newt is hinting at is the fact that his and Santorum’s delegates could exceed Romney’s, and deals could be made. Perhaps even a Newt/Santorum ticket....at least that’s the order I’m rootng for.
