BIRMINGHAM, Alabama ---Republican presidential primary candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, vying for the image of the most conservative candidate, spoke to a packed audience in downtown Birmingham tonight.
The candidates, speaking at a forum at the Alabama Theatre sponsored by the Alabama GOP, both heavily criticized President Barack Obama while also critiquing the other candidates, even if it wasn't always by name.
"You need to look to a leader that believes in you, and that's where I lie," Santorum said.
The crowd was friendly to both candidates but seemed most warm to Gingrich, as was apparent by multiple cheers of "Newt, Newt, Newt."

I want to see him get the nomination for no other reason than
his debating mastery. It will be needed to counter the Billion dollar Obama war machine. The unions have already pledged $250 million for Obama re-election.

If people would pay attention and research, they would be able to see the best candidate. You would think after having the gift of Obama, they might choose to investigate a little more instead of relying on the media to spoon feed them their answers. I guess in the time of free lunches and frickin’ free everything under the sun, it’s too much to ask them to think TOO! So fed up with having to live with MORONS in this country. I see/hear non-thinking everywhere. I’ve got someone on Facebook that actually thinks the government should supply gas stamps like they do food stamps. I really want to yank my hair out. Then a second one posting an Al Franken piece about birth control and how he is so “logical”. Then another one on FB complaining about “pink slime” in kids’ lunches all across the country. And how those kids have to eat TWO times a day at school. First off, I’ve never seen hamburger meat in breakfast meals at school. Secondly, I’ve never seen hamburger meat offered five times a week. Thirdly, it’s pretty damn pathetic when it’s too much to ask parents to feed their offspring if they are unhappy with the choices at school. When it comes to a point in this country when people have to decide if they want bark or grass for lunch, we are going to be wishing for the good old days of pink slime!

Sweaty! From the moment he appeared onstage, he was upstaged by the spotlights reflected on his shiny forehead. You could see the headlights in the deer in the headlights.
Yes, that bothers me that Rick is saying he is the true Reagan conservative in the race. What does it say; he completely ignores Newt's historical ties to President Reagan.
Probably sweating bullets from his conscience on account of all the lying he was pulling up there.
I doubt anyone anywhere would have the time to do the calculations or gather the quotes, but more and more, Santorum’s speeches and remarks are just stuff that Newt said much much earlier. And when he’s really pressed, Santorum isn’t even able to dress them up and make them look like his own. I really don’t like that for some reason, though I suppose it goes on all the time.
And I really don’t like Sanctimonium calling newt Congressman Gingrich, to make himself look more important. That is particularly lousy to me. Someone told me it is a part of congressional protocol to always address a member by the highest title he achieved. Tacky. Tacky Tricky Ricky.

I would not go there with that kind of logic and imagery. How about letting the man alone in his grave? He is passed on now, and he did not endorse anyone for the 2012 election the last I heard. Just as easily, you could bring up whom Ron Jr. or Nancy Reagan are going to support. Can we just leave our best, and departed, President out of this (believe me, you will open a whole can of late 70s/early 1980s somewhat ugly Capitol Hill insider worms if you insist on "going there", bring the President Reagan-Congressman Gingrich dynamic into this thing.

Santorum was sweaty and looked nervous. If you want to put your head in the sand and ignore that, have at it. It’s not a matter of class though. It’s just the plain truth. Sorry you’re guy looked sweaty and nervous and Newt was calm and made his case well. Don’t whine.
