South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a key supporter of Mitt Romney, received $62,500 in campaign contributions since 2008 from state and federal political committees set up by supporters of Mitt Romney, records show.
Funds came from so-called leadership PACs in five different states and the nations capital. By spreading the funds around, Romneys supporters were able to give far more than the state limit of $3,500 per election.
The contributions came from Free & Strong America leadership PACs, run by Romney supporters, a Center for Public Integrity analysis of campaign finance records found. Leadership PACs are separate from campaign committees and are established by candidate sponsors to help other candidates win elections. Presidential candidates have used these PACs to contribute money to elected officials in order to gain clout and possibly win endorsements.
Such PACs basically acts as subsidiary campaign committees, said Tara Malloy of the Campaign Legal Center.
Haley endorsed Romney in December. While some have said her endorsement wont make a difference to Romneys campaign, Candice Nelson, the director of American Universitys Campaign Management Institute, said gaining support in the Tea Party, which favors the governor a group he has struggled to win over cant hurt.
Nikki Haley was important to Romney, Nelson said. What she brings to the table is a more conservative point of view and the support of the Tea Party members.
Romney largely skipped over South Carolina in 2008, ceding it to winner Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who came in a close second. South Carolinas significant population of evangelical voters has not looked on the Mormon candidate favorably in the past.

Sounds like Nikki has been fluked...conservative principles be damned, she’s out for the money
Well, now we know how much she’s willing to sell her integrity for. It’s a shame. She went cheap.
Here’s hoping the Tea Party in the Palmetto State tosses her out on her ear in two years.
That’s been Romney’s modus operandi for years. In 2008 he literally paid “supporters” to stand around holding signs in Iowa.
Ever notice how boisterous sounding his post primary speeches are. That ain’t real enthusiasm. A nice chunk of them are aspiring actors if you know what I mean.
Everything about this guy seems to be as authentic as Joseph Smith’s prophecies.
The ONE difference between Romneycare & Omamacare?
I have heard that Mitt Romney has been spreading money around my state, WA, for the past two years.
Well, now not only do we know what she is but we know what she charges.
Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Woman: My goodness, Mr. Churchill Well, I suppose
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Woman: What kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Weve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.
We know what kind of woman Nikki Haley is, and I'm not interested in the exact price - or any other interaction with her.
Check THIS out! Sarah Palin helps her get elected and then she almost immediately flips to Romney.
Services rendered for payment. Political prostitution pays dividends.
I recall Santorum did much the same at the behest of GOP-E conjuring up his support and good wishes to Specter, the abortion guy, the cave for Obamacare on the Republican side of the aisle.
At least Newt’s lumbering off the reservation was never habit, and NEVER while in office, where he was the one to bury Democrats, one by one, on a regular basis.
Not sure I ever saw Romney or Santorum LEAD at anything much conservative, beyond campaign time rhetoric. They endorse but never lead when in a position to do so, In-Office.
“If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it, did it really fall.” THAT pretty much adds up Romney and Santorum for their conservative leadership.
Not a surprise..just shows the corruption that goes on in DC..its all over the place..backroom deals, money changing hands, same ol crap, nothing ever changes. I had read a rumor a while back that Haley was promised by Romney that her state would be exempt from the mandate in Obamacare if she supported him..now if that is true, then that means Romney has NO intention of repealing Obamacare, because if his intention was to repeal it, why make deals promising that SC would be exempt from it
I think Palin promoted for her in the later days of the election cycle to get her over the hump so to speak, because she was preferrable to the alternative.
Now we know Palin did it on principle, not for any monetary gain, or for automatic gratitute.
Nikki Haley made sure she kpet Palin (and conservative grassroots) at a long distance after her successful bid for governorship.
This is 3rd grade corruption.
Mitt is going to paper this election.
Mitt is going to paper this election.
If she turns out to have been a bad governor, then I suspect they will. If she ends up having done a good job, then do her campaign contributions matter?
She used the Tea Party to get into office and has been sucking up to the GOP establishment ever since. As Trent Lott said, the establishment needs to indoctrinate successful Tea Party candidates as soon as possible to prevent their out of the box thinking.
Her taking money from Romney in exchange for her endorsement is more of a symptom of her problem. I seriously doubt she’ll be an effective conservative during her term in office.
You may well be right. That would be a huge disappointment. How does she get along with Demint, I wonder?
