New figures: More of US at risk to sea level rise
CBS News ^ | March14, 2012

WASHINGTON — Global warming-fueled sea level rise over the next century could flood 3.7 million people in 544 U.S. cities temporarily, according to a new method of looking at risking of rising seas published in two scientific papers.

The cities that have the most people living within three feet (one meter) of high tide — the projected sea level rise by the year 2100 made by many scientists and computer models — are in Florida, Louisiana, and New York. New York City, often not thought of as a city prone to flooding, has 141,000 people at risk, which is second only to New Orleans' 284,000. The two big Southeast Florida counties, Miami-Dade and Broward, have 312,000 people at risk combined.

"Southeast Florida is definitely the highest density of population that's really on low coastal land that's really most at risk," said lead author Ben Strauss, a scientist at Climate Central. Climate Central is a New Jersey-based group of scientists and journalists who do research about climate change.

The studies look at people who live in homes within three feet of high tide, whereas old studies looked just at elevation above sea level, according to work published Thursday in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Research and an accompanying report by Climate Central. That's an important distinction because using high tide is more accurate for flooding impacts, said study co-author Jonathan Overpeck, a scientist at the University of Arizona's Institute of the Environment. And when the new way of looking at risk is factored in, the outlook looks worse, Overpeck said.

"It's shocking to see how large the impacts could be, particularly in southern Florida and Louisiana, but much of the coastal U.S. will share in the serious pain," Overpeck said.

Well then. We have scientists and journalists collaborating on this fraud. All that's missing are teachers and liberal politicians.

Sea level still not cooperating with predictions

"Sea level is lower than eight years ago, and according to the graph above just passed the lowest annual peak in the Envisat record."

Gee did Al Gore consider rising sea levels when he bought his $9 million seaside mansion in California? If he truly believed this rising sea level malarkey wouldn't you think he would have bought a mansion on higher ground?

When you write the program to prove your preconceived notion its no wonder they get these results. More struggle for their 15 minutes of shame (and another Federal Grant).

WTF, starting up this old radical hype again. According to them 1/3 of the U.S. should be under water already.

but it’s not really about water. It’s about Muslim tax.

I thought the East Anglica emails showed this scam to be a scam...

I guess the prospect of transferring Trillion$ to an ‘environmental group is just too much to walk back from, in spite of the absurdity...

Research Maurice Strong to get an idea of the type of people behind this. M Strong makes Gore look like a conservative...

Qattara Depression

If Greenland melted down completely, 88% of the excess water produced could be contained by flooding the uninhabited Qattara Depression in northwest Egypt, producing hundreds of miles of valuable lakefront property, generating electrical power as water flowed from the Medditerranean to the depression and potentially turning much of the surrounding Sahara Desert into arable land.

It took Greenland 18,000 years to accumulate as much ice as it has now. How long do you think it will take it to melt?

I’m more concerned about Sea Level Lowering. Just because I’m a denier, it does NOT mean I should have my Beach Rights STOLEN from me. As it is, it now takes me ONE WHOLE HOUR to get to the Atlantic Ocean. If Glowbull Warming is bunk, this could mean that instead of sea levels rising, they are more likely to be LOWERING! I should NOT be forced to drive 2 hours or more away to get my Constitutionally Guaranteed Beach Access, when I’ve had 1 hour access all along.

Russian дезинформация

Global Warming? Soviet Propaganda? Hard to distinguish the difference.

So NYC has 141,000 people “at risk” in 90 years. Wow, what a major undertaking to get out of the way of the “rising seas.” I sure hope the government trains those 141,000 people so they know the warning signs and are prepared to get out of the way of the water surge.

Actually, NYC won’t have anything to worry about because Dem policies will continue to kill the state and people will continue to flea. They’ll lose FAR more than 141,000 due to public policy idiocy.

Haven't they heard?
The ascension of King Obama slowed the rise in the sea levels.
We are safe as long as we worship the Kenyan King.

"This was the moment when the
rise of the oceans began to slow
and our planet began to heal."

We could just dig a deep hole and let the 2 million degree interior of the earth vaporize the excess sea water.
