NEW YORK — Michelle Obama chose an off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown for her duties Wednesday night as hostess at a White House state dinner honoring the British prime minister and his wife, David and Samantha Cameron.

It was a deep shade of teal in a draped, column silhouette.

The designer of the gown, Georgina Chapman, and her husband, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, were guests at the affair, but they didn't know Mrs. Obama was wearing one of Chapman's designs when they arrived.

"I'm knocked out!" Weinstein said.

A simple, ornate oversized vintage topaz pendant (or any other oversized colorful cut stone pendant) would have been the proper complimentary-type piece to that class of gown.

I think even Eunice would agree. ;-)

It looks to me like a psychological method of him trying to exhibit dominance over the other person.

I believe that's exactly why Obama does that.

I think Michelle’s dress is very pretty, but, and I don’t mean to sound catty here, she could really have used a Spanx undergarment to hold in her stomach, and smooth out the rear, where her, ahem, cheeks are showing.

I don’t care for the gown. First of all, the color isn’t flattering to her skin tone. While the bodice is decently designed (would look a lot better if she maintained better posture), the skirt is too clingy, too tight looking. The fabric pulls across her lower abdomen and even the back shot, shows too much gluteal fleshiness. Obviously the beads are gawd-awful...looks like they were purchased at Target in the jewelry clearance section.

The British PM’s wife doesn’t look nice either. Oscar de la Renta must be shaking his head in horror these days.

He’s stepping on her dress. When did First Ladies start wearing dresses with trains?

in middle eastern culture the last person through the door is the most important.

Really? I'd never heard that. Interesting.

And OMG I just noticed that that’s a Christmas outfit that Eunice has put together—I noticed the plastic pointsettia and holly sprigs she stuck in her hair. LOLOL. And do I see a hint of tinsel on her um...apron? And the oversized brickabrack edging on her flutter cap sleeves? LOLOL. The funniest woman EVER.

I agree with you on the Spandex. “Shapewear” they call it these days.

She always wears heaps of necklaces with her evening gowns—looks bad.

A tribal tradition.

That dress is one of her better efforts. It’s actually quite attractive.

She ruined the effect by the necklace collection. It would have been stunning in its simplicity had she left off jewelry at the neck altogether.

Michelle has finally found a first lady who has similar tastes. The other first lady has managed to make a ball gown look like a house dress.

The saggy bustline of the dress wasn’t meant for a woman lacking boobies.

Replacement is ready. Two discarded nuclear warheads are being polished and painted white.

Don't attempt any racist thoughts.

I’ve noticed it forever and it drives me crazy. You are right about it appearing he is trying to exibit dominance over the other party.

Remember the movie “The Guns of Navarone?”

0b0z0ella fires an equivalent salvo before backing up. It kills people in a 25-mile radius; however, it avoids the annihilation of the city.
