Gov. Tom Corbett signs voter ID into law (Pennsylvania)

After three days of floor debate, the Pennsylvania House has passed a bill requiring voters to show photo ID at the polls. Governor Tom Corbett signed the bill into law Wednesday night.

Opponents call it a "poll tax," while supporters insist it's "common sense."

Counties are being told about the upcoming changes, according to Ron Ruman, a spokesman for the Department of State.

For the April 24 primary election, poll workers are supposed to request, but not require, that voters show photo identification.

"And then we're asking that the poll worker hand that voter a small sheet of paper which has the basics of the voter ID bill on it -- what types of voter ID will be acceptable for the fall election and where they can go to get more information," Ruman said.

It won't be until November's general election that the rules stick.

Voters can show a driver's license, or a nondriver's ID from PennDOT. State and federal government-issued IDs are acceptable, as are employee IDs from Pennsylvania county and municipal governments.

Identification from an accredited Pennsylvania college or university, as well as Pennsylvania nursing homes and assisted living facilities also will be accepted. Voters without any of those identifications can get a free ID from PennDOT before the general election.

A voter without necessary ID on Election Day can cast a special ballot that will be counted if that voter shows acceptable identification to the county election office within six days of the election.

This is not the Philadelphia way. Expecting a prompt court challenge.

I voted yesterday....had to show ID to do it. Big deal. Seems like common sense to me.

Slowly but surely, vote fraud will keep getting a little bit tougher for the rats to get away with.

Now that voter ID is the law in PA, where is the protection for illegals and for the dead? Where are the protections to allow rats in Philly to vote multiple times if they want to? At this rate elections might someday be 100% legit and that’s just not fair.

Heh heh heh. Now if we could just repeal the Motor Voter Fraud Act. What a fiasco that turned out to be.

Not if you need folks to vote more than once, or get illegals voting.

Eric Holder is gonna have his hands full.

He’s already challenging Texas on this.

He will lose. One way or the other.

WTH? The poll workers can ask, but aren’t required to get ID?

Then why even bother?

There is nothing wrong with showing ID at a polling place. When I lived in Louisiana (considered one of THE most corrupt states), I had to show ID for every election.

They’ve kept quiet about our in Michigan. It spent several years in court before becoming effective so we must have it refined to the point that they can’t figure out how to go after it.

He knows he’ll lose.

It’s not about winning. It’s about delaying the law until after November.

Want to see the Statue Of Liberty? Bring a photo Id.

Statue of Liberty

When presenting the tickets to access the Statue on Liberty Island, each ticket holder will be required to show photo ID (except minors without ID) matching the name printed on the
ticket.

My God, what have we come to in this country???

Legitimate ID should go without saying. State after state is clarifying this. The People are speaking, have spoken. Texas is offering ID’s for free and will even mail them to people. These PC arguments don’t hold water.

To think we have an Administration that sues states for exercising their Constitutional rights is a disgrace and a nightmare.

People, we have GOT to get BHO out of our WH, no matter what!

If the activists can transport the folks to the
voting booth then they can also transport them
to the ID booth a few months before.

Thats my story and I’m sticking to it.

Yes, I want to see a news crew covering that Philly polling station where the Black Panther billy club guys were intimidating voters in 2008. I also want to see if they have to have Photo ID to stand in front and threaten voters.
