Vandy's diversity doctrine is Orwellian
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | 3/16/12 | Greg Johnson

On Monday, the day after this year's NCAA March Madness selections, hardcore Vanderbilt University basketball fans plotted a pilgrimage to the desert, to Albuquerque, to exhort their Commodores in their struggle with the Harvard Crimson. Also on Monday, Vanderbilt battered the faithful and cast out the Christians, all in the name of diversity.

March 12 marked the day Vanderbilt student groups must begin to submit applications to the university so the Ministry of Diversity, er, I mean, the Dean of Students office, can decree which student organizations are nondiscriminatory enough to haunt Vandy's hallowed halls.

Forgive the Orwellian slip, but to Christian groups at Vanderbilt, it must certainly seem they are living in "1984." After a Christian fraternity ousted a gay student from its ranks, Vanderbilt began a review of student groups' constitutions. The Christian Legal Society members, thinking they had the right to freely associate with like-minded classmates, learned their constitution ran afoul of the Ministry of Diversity.

Said constitution called for leaders of the Christian Legal Society to be, well, Christians, including accepting Jesus Christ as Lord, believing the Bible and "striv(ing) to exemplify Christ-like qualities." What could possibly be wrong with a Christian group requiring its leaders to be Christians? Plenty, according to Minister of Diversity, er, I mean, Dean of Students Mark Bandas.

"Vanderbilt's nondiscrimination policy embodies our commitment to sustaining a community in which all students participate in the Vanderbilt experience," Bandas wrote on the Vandy website. "Our policy requires that all students are presumed to be eligible for membership in registered student organizations and that all organization members in good standing are eligible to compete for leadership positions, though it is up to each organization to select its own leaders."

Vanderbilt, like most of the uber-tolerant left, is only tolerant of those whom it agrees with.

Vanderbilt is an after thought in the SEC. Sometimes decent basketball, and mens baseball. An utter failure in football. Let the liberals enjoy their time till football season and the SEC powers will run their ragged tails back to Nashville.

As long as Conservatives agree to ‘PLAY the Game” with these Communist trolls and colleges we’re finished. Got a Conservative group? Don’t run to these assholes yelling Please, Please, Please ok us! Form your group and take it OFF CAMPUS. What kind of crap are you looking for anyway from these morons? Money? What $3.40 cents? A room to meet in? A table at registration? Screw that crap. Organize OUTSIDE their Commie system. Then tell them what they can do with diversity!

The remedy for this sort of thing is to take the Vandy administrators at their word, and hold them to it. Given the demographics, it should not be difficult for activist Christians to win all the leadership positions in campus Moslem and Jewish organizations. There should also be enough white students to take control of campus african american and hispanic groups. It would be fun to round up enough conservative guys to take over a couple of feminist groups. This should be continued until Vandy’s commisars realize that “diversity,” properly understood, must allow groups to actually differ.

Once this point is made, conservatives should gracefully stand down — but not before contributing every cent in the liberal groups’ treasuries to conservative causes.

I’m so ashamed of my graduate school. I can’t believe they have let this go on like this.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Intervarsity Christian Assoc and Baptist Student Union need to ban together and start taking over other clubs.

They could try to find some innoculous friendly clubs that are willing to let themselves be temporarily taken over in order to demonstrate the absurdity of the situation.

In the worse case, they could find some completely antagonistic clubs. There is probably an athiest club. They could go take over it and begin issuing apologies for prior stances, and inviting Christian speakers to speak.

Get a copy of the clubs bylaws and find one where they can hold instant elections and replace the leadership immediately. Explain to the prior membership, that they bid them no ill will, but are only doing this to demonstrate the absurdity of the diversity rules, and hopefully will be gone soon.

Once Vanderbilt reverses policy, they could always ask to have their names stricken from the roles.

Actually they should win all the leadership positions on campus and have every club call for resignations of the people who supported the policy.

Or they could just not make an issue of it. And retain the leadership positions indefinitely.

You took the words right out of my mouth. If the college can demand that Christian groups accept anyone who applies, do the same thing back. The core of the problem is that they act like thugs while we act like gentlemen, which is what the left depends on to continue their assault on American culture.

Remember Alinsky’s rule: use the values of the enemy against him. Alinksy is a tactic that can and should be used against the left. The aggressive treatment of cancer isn’t done by handling the carcinoma nicely.

It would be kind of funny -

In my dream world - they do it “blitzkreig style” - take them all over in one semester.

Then - in a sign of unity and solidarity - combine all the budgets - to hire like David Horowitz for a speaker.

Actually - I was just thinking abou this -

most of these clubs don’t have rigorous standards - in other words - you don’t need to attend all of the meetings to be a member in good standing.

I think - you just need to join.

Process -
1. Find out he requirements.
2. target those without formal attendance requirements.
3. Announce a party at a frat.
4. Buy a keg.
5. Attendees need to sign a form to get a cup.

After taking over the group - change any bye laws that require difficult to meet requirements - like attendance at events, etc. So that anyone can enter with the stroke of a pen.

Game over.

I’d probably make a phone call to FIRE first. Because the school would definitely come after you.

Just went on Vandy website -

I didn’t see any requirements for joining any of these groups.

I’ll buy the first keg.

My, my!!

Guess the basketball program cannot require that team members are basketball players who respect, and are willing to live by, the rules of the sport.

So much for going back to the NCAA playoffs next year!

Vanderbilt has a Muslim Students Association that does not appear to be subject to these requirements..
