Seaweed in Your Gas Tank [Krauthammer Dissects Obama's Lies and Inconsistencies]
National Review ^ | March 16, 2012 | Charles Krauthammer

MARCH 16, 2012 Seaweed in Your Gas Tank The president’s energy policies prefer fantasy to reality. Charles Krauthammer

Yes, of course, presidents have no direct control over gas prices. But the American people know something about this president and his disdain for oil. The “fuel of the past,” he contemptuously calls it. To the American worker who doesn’t commute by government motorcade and is getting fleeced every week at the pump, oil seems very much a fuel of the present — and of the foreseeable future.

President Obama incessantly claims energy open-mindedness, insisting that his policy is “all of the above.” Except, of course, for drilling

off the Mid-Atlantic coast (as Virginia, for example, wants)

off the Florida Gulf Coast (instead, the Castro brothers will drill near there)

in the broader Gulf of Mexico (where drilling in 2012 is expected to drop 30 percent below pre-moratorium forecasts)

in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (more than half the size of England, the drilling footprint being the size of Dulles Airport) on federal lands in the Rockies (where leases are down 70 percent since Obama took office)

But the event that drove home the extent of Obama’s antipathy to nearby, abundant, available oil was his veto of the Keystone pipeline. It gave the game away, because the case for Keystone is so obvious and overwhelming. Vetoing it gratuitously prolongs our dependence on outside powers, kills thousands of shovel-ready jobs, forfeits a major strategic resource to China, damages relations with our closest ally, and sends billions of oil dollars to Hugo Chávez, Vladimir Putin, and already obscenely wealthy sheiks.

Obama boasts that on his watch, production is up and imports down. True, but truly deceptive. These increases have occurred in spite of his restrictive policies. They are the result of Clinton- and Bush-era........

“Krauthammer may have some odd opinions from time to time, but he is not a liberal for cripes sake.”

He may not be a leftist but he is a liberal, like many neoconservatives- essentially they were once the Scoop Jackson wing of the Democratic Party who parted company with the Democrats over Carter’s foreign policy and decided to ally themselves with Ronald Reagan.

Clyde Wilson wrote of this invasion of re-badged liberals:

” The offensives of radicalism have driven vast herds of liberals across the border into our territories. These refugees now speak in our name, but the language they speak is the same one they always spoke.”

However unlike many neocons Krauthammer didn’t support Ronald Reagan; in fact Krauthammer wrote speeches for Walter Mondale in 1984, trying to defeat Reagan in the 1984 campaign.

So I’m not sure when Kraut began passing himself off as a sort of conservative, but he’s been doing it for long enough to convince people that’s what he is. So while I’m glad that he’s not working for the other side anymore, I don’t trust his judgement or his motives. The same goes for Michael Medved.

Why would you be willing to criticize someone who criticizes Obama?

Think.

Ditto on both. These are former moderate liberal Democrats.
Krauthammer was absolutely giddy on Fox News, when they announced Obama the winner. I’ll never forget that lugubrious unrelenting grin on his face. I was mortified!!

“”krauthammer is a liberal... he was born to liberal dim parents... registered as a dim... worked for mondale and then carter... attacked Reagan for a paycheck... plays a conservative for the pay check. He and fred barnes were both orgasmic on fox news election night 2008... I have it recorded to DVD. “ LLS I don’t have to see the DVD...I remember it like it was yesterday. see post 28

A lot of us know Kraut’s liberal past and his neo-con leanings, but you made a claim about his 2008 vote and jessd smoked you on it.

“I’ll have no truck with the phony case ginned up to rationalize voting for the most liberal and inexperienced presidential nominee in living memory. “

He is paid well to write whatever his bosses tell him to write. george will, peggy noonan and bill kristol are no different. When you need them most... their true colors show... and have since they began their careers. I know what krauthammer is... you are still in denial... so are many more. Some even think fox is still conservative. Some do not want to see the truth... I trust no one but GOD so it matters not to me.

A lifetime of liberalism is not changed by a handful of op- eds, when the world can see the failure of who and what obama is... and that does not make krauthammer a conservative. I do not care what you think... we can disagree about krauthammer. I am an extreme right wing Conservative so maybe what passes for Conservatism for you does not pass the test for me. It does not matter... my opinion and yours will have no effect on anything beyond this thread.
