...[Tom Hanks has] plunge[d] into a property deal that has made him the owner of the most expensive house in Los Angeles.

...Hanks along with his actress wife Rita Wilson (last seen as Meryl Streep’s buddy in ‘It’s Complicated’) have together bought a house in the Pacific Palisades for about $26 million.

The sprawling home is spread across 14,500 square foot and was built in 1996. Apparently, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall formerly owned it. The building consists of 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Two levels of living space and three levels of support space go very well with gorgeous Pacific Palisades backdrop which is located quite close to Malibu and Santa Monica.

The story I heard was that Hanks once said he wished he could take back the $10000 he gave to Clinton during Monicagate.....but when the word got out, he quickly retracted and said he would very gladly donate again to Clinton’s campaign.

I don’t know if Beverly Hills is considered part of L.A. or not but I just checked some listings in there and there are 6 or 7 properties listed for more than $26M, one listed at $125M. Of course, those are the “listed” prices but, on the other hand, those are just the properties for sale, not all properties.

Agree. Tom Hanks is not fit to wear Jimmy Stewart’s shoes. Tom Hanks may be able to memomorize a script, but is otherwise a moron.

Beverly Hills is it's own city contained within the city of Los Angeles.

You’re right. There were MANY homes in Los Angeles worth more than $26M in early 2010. Also, noting that he purchased this home for $26M in 2010, it’s undoubtedly worth considerably less than that now.

Tom Hanks Loses Legal Battle Over Idaho House

May. 26, 2011

The Money Pit star and his wife, Rita Wilson, sued an Idaho construction company for $3 million in 2007 for the botched building of their $12 million home. But arbitrators ruled against their claim, instead placing the blame for the shoddily built house on the architect.

Not only did Wilson and Hanks lose, now they have to pay up...

After the American Arbitration Association determined that the duo failed to prove that damages to the house were the fault of Storey Construction (the case was completed over 10 days in April), they slapped the couple with the full cost of arbitration: $167,623.

Hanks and Wilson said in a statement that they aren’t happy with the decision and that they’ve already resolved their problems with the architect.

“Over the years, we have experienced a number of serious problems with how our home was designed and built,” the couple stated. “We have previously resolved our claims against the architect. For various legal reasons, including the passage of time, the arbitrators did not share our view of the contractor’s portion of responsibility. While we disagree with the outcome, we are pleased that the contractor’s counterclaims were rejected.”

A lawyer for Storey Construction says the judgment finally vindicates the firm.

“It’s shocking and disgusting that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson would treat anyone the way they treated [owner] Gary Storey,” attorney Miles Stanislaw said. “The emotional and financial damage they have done to Gary Storey and his family is incalculable. Hanks and Wilson didn’t just lose the case, they were disgraced.”

Hanks and Wilson had settled with the firm last year in a one-day arbitration deal in which the couple received $900,000.

I would not give him a cardboard box to live in nor a heating grate to place it.

That is a building or house not a home. A home has warmth. This edifice to Gluttony is very evident.

By the way where is my Fair Share?

Building for the self-important often has this outcome. Most truely wealthy are fine to deal with but I generally don’t like building for the newly rich. Small issues, easily settled or mitigated for others, become a reason to vastly underpay for guys like Hanks, functionaries and certain so-called Professionals.

Maybe it’s beautiful inside... ‘cause you’re right - for that money - it’s ugly on the outside.

It looks like a Medical Services building.

My immediate impression was a substance abuse facility.
