The elder daughter of US President Barack Obama is spending her springbreak in the historic Mexican city of Oaxaca in the company of 12 friends, a state police official said.

*snip*

"We are here to block access to the hotel by other people and escort the vehicles that are carrying the visitors to tourism sites," the police official told AFP under the condition of anonymity.

Malia Obama and her friend are guarded by 25 US Secret Service agents as well as Mexican police, the official noted.

I know .. training for the entitled ...

Errands are calling my name, and a reminder that we know comments need to be tempered, even as we seethe. She’s but
a child, and being allowed a luxe life that’s directed by the actual culprits. There is apparently no end to the expectations and fulfillment of their grandeur.

Obama Sale of First Family Photo Tests Campaign Rules

A portrait of the president, first lady and their daughters taken in the Oval Office by an official White House photographer is prominently featured on Obama-Biden buttons for $5 apiece, and in an online campaign ad asking voters to “join our campaign.”

It’s the first time this election cycle that images of Sasha and Malia Obama have been used by the president’s re-election team after years of careful control over their public use.

But more remarkable may be the legal and ethical questions raised by use of the photo, which was originally taken and published at taxpayer expense and for which political and commercial use is expressly prohibited.

So there’s 12 “friends” and 25 Secret Service agents. So are any parents on this trip, or is the SS babysitting?

Wonder if we’re paying the freight for the 12 friends as well.

I don’t like it when details concerning the activities of the USSS are made public. Of course they are there, but what good comes from identifing the number of agents. This is not cool, no matter who is the President.

I can’t afford to take my kids on a vacation and they do
this.... How much is this costing the tax payer?
God please give these people their walking papers!

“It is nice to be the king’s daughter.”

She is going to be as ugly as her mother. Bushy eybrows and moustache included.

Umm...aren't these children a bit young to be needing anything like spring break trips to Mexico? It's not like they've spent the past few months working on their Masters thesis or something.

My first thoughts as well. Where are the chaperones? Who lets their kid go to Mexico with no parents? Shouldn’t there be a law against that?

She is 13 years old for cryin’ out loud............ Why is she not spending spring break with her parents like normal 13yo do?.............oh never mind.

My husband’s job won’t let him take the time off right now, so he is “shipping” me and our 13yo daughter to my father for Easter and she will be amply protected as my father is retired NYPD — the difference of course is WE ARE PAYING FOR OUR TRIP. Oh wait, it isn’t different is it, as we are also paying for her trip and protection..........facepalm.

I was thinking the same thing. The poor girl is really homely.

And I really feel sorry for that Secret Service agent and his colleagues. Can you imagine what it’s like being trapped guarding that many teenage girls for a week?

Even a one night sleepover is enough to drive us around the bend here LOL.

Saw a campaign banner at the top of Yahoo with the whole family. Part of the re-election campaign for the “good family man”...

I agree with other posters-—why would a 12 year old need a “spring break”???
