Time to Get Out of Afghanistan
The American Thinker ^ | 03/19/12 | Robert Spencer

Posted on 03/19/2012 10:02:26 AM PDT by pgkdan

The Afghan mission is imploding, and the Obama administration is covering for Islamic jihadists. Last week, Marine officials revealed that a Marine killed on February 1 in what the Pentagon called "combat operations" at the time was actually murdered by a jihadist in the Afghan army. The cover-up of this latest jihad attack from a supposed ally is emblematic of a failed mission. It is long past time to end the mission in Afghanistan

I completely concur. I'm sorry I ever supported this war. We should have bombed the Taliban into dust and left. Plain and simple. If it were up to me I'd pull out as soon as logistically possible. Tommorrow...next week. Just get our guys the hell out of there and announce to the world that if whatever governemnt assumes control of the cesspool allows al queda to train there again and they attack us, our allies or our interests anywhere in the world we will attack without restaint and continue our attack until we're satisfied that our enemy is crushed. When we're satisfied that our enemy is crushed we will leave. Period. And that should be our policy anywhere in the world where terrorists are allowed to operate.

I totally agree. We aren’t going to change 6000 years of a bad culture in ten years. Get out with a warning that if we have to come back, it will be only from the air and they won’t like the results. But....we have to remember who our President is. That needs to change first.

Nation building is a mistake. The military should be tasked with killing people and breaking things. If we think that schools and hospitals should be built, and wells drilled, then we should send in the Peace Corps. If it's too dangerous for the Peace Corps, then we should have no role.

In the old days we could subdue and pacify a nation -- we firebombed Dresden and we nuked Nagasaki and Hiroshima. We don't do that any more. We do not subdue and pacify in a forceful manner. Therefore, we can only "build" in places that really want us to do the building.

Afghanistan is not one of those places.

I don’t know why we’re still there. Does anyone know what our mission is today and what we’re doing to achieve it? We’re not attacking the Taliban. Our troops aren’t fighting...they’re just dodging bullets from friends and foes. And that is unconscienable! Our troops deserve better!

It's a good thing we have a Democrat in the White House, or covering up the truth about a combat death would be a major scandal. It's Obama's people lying to the public from the White House, and Obama's people lying to the public from the media newsrooms, so it's no big deal, but that could have been a major anti-military story under other circumstances.

Just ask the Savage Soviets - they weren’t interested in nation-building in Afghanistan, but they still left with their tails between their legs. IT’s all chronicled in “The Beast” - should not have risked one life or limb for that place. Clinton and his minions like Wesley Clark didn’t get prosecuted for war crimes in Kosovo-Serbia for conducting an air war on Christian civilians all to give the Muslims a country in Europe. So, whose side are we on any way?

Fighting to win with clear goals is such a nostalgic notion.

There is nothing we can do there than we can’t do from 35,000 up.

That is no place to nation build. The Sh##Hole is not worth another drop of American blood. The Taliban are not going anywhere, no matter how long we are there and how many troops we send. They are like cockroaches. Kill one and miss the hundred we don’t see. Mexico is the most immediate threat to us, and we are ignoring it entirely. Mexico is where the next 9/11 terrorist will enter from. That is where out troops need to be, clearing out the murderous scum there.

It's a case of damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Remember, we helped the Afghans to get rid of the Russians, then left, only to see the Taliban take over. We then went back in, ostensibly to get rid of the Taliban. Unfortunately, we stayed.

It took the Brits 200 years to turn India into something resembling a democracy. We don't have that kind of time. To paraphrase Otto von Bismarck, Afghanistan is not worth the bones of a single American soldier.

The leftist trash would say no less if a Republican was president.

“...If we think that schools and hospitals should be built, and wells drilled, then we should send in the Peace Corps...”

The Peace Corps cannot do anything right. The Army has a Corps of Engineers while the Peace Corps as a Corps of Overweight barely-graduated women with negative skills to offer the host countries.

The Peace Corps should be abolished because for half a century it has inslulted the hard-working citizens of host countries with idiotic projects and pathetic-looking, spoiled, unskilled Americans on a paid vacation via the taxpayer’s dime.

The Brits brought the benefits of their culture to India while we enshrine Sharia into the Afghan constitution. What the Afghans need is the Gospel and republican forms of government. Sharia makes sensible government and an American style of rights impossible. 377th FA Regt., Khowst Prov., Afghanistan

Not one more precious drop...and I frankly don't care what happens after we leave.

Sterilize the poppy fields on the way out. What’s the over/under on how long Karzai lasts when our boots leave the ground there?
