Yes, you know they worked together, and Santorum was a key player in the events leading up to Gingrich becoming speaker.
Santorum was a supporter of Newt even before he entered politics, and was listening to Gingrich speeches when discussing his plans.
Santorum was part of the gang of 7 who made the check-kiting scandal a national story, which was instrumental in the Republican sweep that carried Newt Gingrich into office.
And when Santorum went to the Senate, he was considered Newt’s point man in that body, working hard to make sure the budgets were balanced, and contributing to the 4 great years of budgets, even after Newt left his position.
And what is the point of this thread, CW?
If the goal is to stop Romney and ultimately, Obama, what earthly purpose do your rants against Santorum accomplish except to make you Newt lovers look like sore losers?
Newt’s campaign is OVER. His funds are drying up, his supporters are abandoning him in droves, his percentages in state polls abysmal. There is no point in his staying in the race except to fuel his own limitless ego needs.
He could have been a hero if he had withdrawn and thrown his support to Santorum. Likely he will now be remembered only for being a spoiler.
You should be thankful that he slithered by the vetting process until just recently. He is now being exposed for his big govt., flip flopping record.

It appears Rick appreciated and helped Newt all those years ago....
...but there is no consideration or respect today for Rick from Newt or a group of people on this forum.
I believe it goes to the character of the man, Rick Santorum, that he presses on!
As of right now Mitt has won 15 states...
Santorum has won 9. And placed second 8x’s.
Newt has won two. And placed second 4x’s.
And while I don’t want Newt to drop out, it’s time for Conservatives to rally around Santorum, if for no other reason to deny Romney the nomination and to take the fight to the convention!

Very well said, Bailee. I don’t want to alienate anyone here, but here on FP, and several other sites I have posted on, Santorum supporters attack Newt & call for him to drop out. They are “as bad as” Mittbots twisting things about Newt & trying to pass them off as facts.They attack anyone who tries to post Santorum’s factual legislative records or provide links to the same.
Then, they turn around & project that behavior onto Newt supporters.
Newt has tried to work something out with Rick, but he is having none of it. Rick has attacked & smeared Newt, but Newt hasn’t done the same to Rick. How many states did Newt stay out of for Rick’s benefit? And how many of those did Rick not come in first?
Newt is both a fiscal & a social conservative. He has the record to prove it.
Rick chooses to focus on social conservatism, believing it to be the right priority
He can’t portray himself as a fiscal conservative because his record betrays that.
Both groups are entitled to their preference & priorities.
Please stop trying to bully us.
