White House Admits Asking Media to Scrub Reports of Malia Obama's Mexican Vacation
NewsBusters ^ | March 20, 2012 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 03/20/2012 7:37:25 AM PDT by Zakeet

After it was reported Monday that Malia Obama was going to Mexico for spring break with 25 Secret Service agents, people began to notice that such reports were being scrubbed from the Internet.

Politico's Dylan Byers reported Tuesday this was done at the request of the White House:

The AFP page for the story now links to a story titled "Senegal music star Youssou Ndour hits campaign trail," as does the Yahoo page. The Huffington Post page now links directly back to the Huffington Post homepage. The Daily Mail, Telegraph, and Australian stories now lead to 404 error pages, reading "page not found."

In an update, Byers explained who was responsible for the scrubbing:

Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emails to confirm this was a White House effort:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

Must be nice to command such an obedient media.

I don’t know - doesn’t look like it ‘cause I got nothing when I ‘googled’ it. I would think not for security reasons.

You mean like when zer0bama tells Americans to avoid mexico vacations and then sends his daughter their on our dime
with 12 other kids and %millions$ of secret service security?

Only an obot could justify not informing tax payers of this stupid, brash and foolish action buy the POS in our White House.

Maybe we should keep quiet about all the obucks going to “holders people” to buy votes so we don’t sound racist.

FUBO and ESAD. Arrrogant sob he is.

HOW ABOUT THE PALIN KIDS?

Yup, Bristol is still waiting for her apology from 0. Even if there’s an MSM double standard, it’s good to see FR standing firm/refusing to `go Maher.’

Journalist is really just a euphemism for propagandist. Arguably, always was, but now so more than ever.

“Sorry, but the children should be off limits for the reasons cited, i.e. privacy and their security. Anyone who would risk the lives of the Obama daughters by posting information that compromises their security deserves to be condemned. When it comes to protecting the children, politics be damned.”

Uh, actually, when the President of the U.S. sends his daughter into a country where his own state department has issued a no-travel warning for everybody else, it becomes ON LIMITS.

When he sends 25 Secret Service agents to ensure her safety - at tax payer expense - it becomes ON LIMITS.

When he pressures news outlets to bury the story and eliminate existing online news links even after it has already been widely reported by his own staff that his daughter is spending spring break in this dangerous country and therefore it is no secret, it becomes ON LIMITS.

When the U.S. travel industry is suffering under the weight of a severe economic downturn and could benefit from some cheerleading by President and other government officials and the President sends his daughter and 12 of her friends to spend travel dollars in another country and not the U.S., it becomes ON LIMITS.

This is wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. And if the President is so concerned about the safety of his daughter, why is he sending her to a country that based on the standards of his own administration is an extremely dangerous place?

Snippets from a link I posted yesterday, which has not been scrubbed (redacting specifics so as not to freak any freepers out) The information is out there:

“......spending her spring break in the historic Mexican city of ______ in the company of 12 friends, a state police official said....”

“..The young tourists, including 13-year-old Malia Ann Obama, are staying at a _______ in this city famous ...”

“..The group, which arrived in _____ Saturday, has already visited the architectural zone of _____ and the tree _____ believed to have one thousand years...”

“...The sightseeing plan also includes visits to ___known for its archeological research sites and _____ famous artisan quarters...”

That's alot of info for a trip meant to be kept off the radar. My hunch is we (US) were the only ones meant to be kept in the dark. I wonder if her trip is being covered in Mexico.

12 friends? I thought they were classmates.

Thinking out loud. SPECULATION ONLY: If I added correctly, Malia is in the 8th grade, meaning she will be in the Upper School next year. Is this a school sponsored event or is it something 12 families did for their kids to mark leaving middle school behind? Did those 12 kids fly on our dime? Parents? Chaperons? BTW, did the Bush daughters have more than 1 SS Agent when they traveled? In no way would I fault them, they are doing their job, but 25 agents? Is that the norm? Wonder who made that decision.

Easter Week in Paris & Rome for a class trip at age 13.

It was your typical European school trip:

Kids trying to hook-up and score booze
Adult married chaperones hooking up for real
A very unwashed French tour guide
The drunk tour bus driver
...and a late night escape from the hotel to a gay disco

Good times, good times....

Make no mistake. The Obamas are rubbing our noses in the fact that they are "in charge". This is just another of their ways to thumb their noses at Americans who don't fawn all over their every word and action.

Their arrogance knows no bounds. Truly.

"Talk about TONE deaf....OR....thinking you are ROYALTY! A 13 year old should NOT be going to Mexico for spring break anyway...this says a lot about their REAL parenting “skills”."

My tax guy, an old family friend, has a 2008 magnet of the Obama family in his office. It turns my stomach every time I see it.

If he were not an old family friend, I would have dropped him because of it.

BTW, he is Black, so used to cut him a little slack for it, but if oBozo wins, I won’t go back to him next year.

While I agree it should not be published WHERE those kids are going, the fact that I(and you) are paying for it while I can’t afford to get myself a decent car makes it newsworthy.

When it comes to protecting the children, politics be damned.

I agree with that, as it regards the girls' security.

As soon as she's back home and her security is no longer an issue, the taxpayer money they spent sending 25 secret service agents on a 13 year old's vacation is a very valid issue.

And, its an absolute PR disaster for this administration, not that they care.

So. The state owned media won’t mention that the girl gone wild in Mexico? I wonder if they made sure to bring some condoms since the government mails them for free to 12 year olds and don’t want them punished with a baby??

This admin thinks 12 year olds are mature enough for sex and will mail them free condoms. Plus at least we know she is going to use protection and won’t be punished with a baby.

I know a hispanic guy who used an old friend (another hispanic) as HIS tax guy, in the past. Turns out....the old friend was not only screwing him on his taxes, but he sold him a car at market value that turned out to be classified as salvage on the title, but he never revealed the fact beforehand. Talk about getting screwed.

Bottom line...some times your “old friends” aren’t really your friends.

The Mexican press is widely reporting the presence of Malia in their country. It is a legitimate news story, especially since the USG has issued a travel advisory on travel to Mexico.

Too bad.

YOUR children aren’t off limits! The government happily teaches them to hump like rabbits and provides free condms by mail.

Why should THEIR kids be off limits, when the fact is, its government waste and pomposity being criticized, not the kid?

You are right, and his voting base has their triple thick rose colored glasses on and sees nothing wrong with this outrageous spending.

I had one lefty friend through the Bush would send his daughters nonsense. It is bizarre. The worshiping of Obama makes many of these people very dangerous. Be careful out there.
