Middle class is booming in a changing Mexico
The Seattle Times ^ | 3/20/12 | William Booth and Nick Miroff

Querétaro is a haven of relative calm. The homicide rate here is on par with Wisconsin, about 3.2 per 100,000 residents.

It is in Querétaro where you can clearly see the new Mexico of 60-hour work weeks, Costco stores and private English-language academies churning out bilingual 14-year-olds.

It is the Mexico where the top 50 names for newborns include a lot of American-sounding names such as Vanessa and Jonathan, where people pay $5 for movie tickets and the public tennis courts have a waiting list.

And it is the Mexico where NAFTA dreams came true, where billions in foreign investment have fostered a flourishing aircraft-manufacturing industry anchored by companies such as Bombardier Aerospace, General Electric and Siemens.

It’s possible to import a middle class economy from the country to which you export your lower classes, if they’re stupid enough to let you.

Good. In a few years let's all move down and call every Mexican who objects a racist.

I just returned from a 3-week vacation in Mexico. It was great. I love Mexico.

The faster Mexico can be lifted up to first world standards, the better for the USA. The illegal alien problem might diminish if there’s less of a poverty-stricken hellhole to escape from.

And it’ll give us a place to escape to after the liberals finish destroying this country.

Queretaro, Morelia, Zihuantanejo and Mexico City, including the Basilica de Guuadalupe. Mexicans are so polite. I highly recommend all four locales.

While many who come are very poor, I would think most who come are the more-ambitious seeking opportunity.

That is so true. There are a lot fewer reports of Chinese being smuggled into the US in freight containers than there were, say, 15 years ago. Mexico could certainly speed things up, though, if they'd get rid of their hide-bound, old-Spanish mentality.

Some of the hardest-working, most traditionalist Americans I know came from Mexico. Controlled immigration is a boon to this country. The problem is having an open 2,000 mile long border with a country so many people want to get out of. It’s too convenient. If Mexico were south of France instead of the USA, they’d have the problem instead of us.

i have lost count of the number of mass graves, beheadings, kidnappings, police-ambushes, and every other sort of grotesque, wanton assault on civil order stories coming out of mexico.

whatever else this headline is, it's a complete whitewash.
