NYT Ethicist A Contest: Tell Us Why It’s Ethical to Eat Meat
New York Times ^ | March 20, 2012 | By ARIEL KAMINER

Ethically speaking, vegetables get all the glory. In recent years, vegetarians — and to an even greater degree vegans, their hard-core inner circle — have dominated the discussion about the ethics of eating. From the philosopher Peter Singer, whose 1975 volume “Animal Liberation” galvanized an international movement, to the novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, who wrote the 2009 best seller “Eating Animals,” those who forswear meat have made the case that what we eat is a crucial ethical decision. To be just, they say, we must put down our cheeseburgers and join their ranks.

If you didn’t eat meat, where would the gravy come from?

All of God’s creatures deserve a place at the table - right next to the mashed potatoes and green beans.

Here's a more salient question:

How is it ethical for the NYT to pay one of its former CEOs a $23.7M exit package, when the company netted only $3M over the past 4 years?

As Ted Nugent says, “Kill it and grill it.”

Ethics has nothing to do with eating food.

If it’s ethical enough for the bald eagle, mountain lion, wolf, polar bear, muskie, hawk, and hundreds of other great American species, it’s ethical enough for me.

Considering how the plants eat all of that nasty carbon and exude oxygen, explain why it’s ethical to be a vegitarian.

If you don’t eat it, it will go to waste. Really, you should eat meat because there’s not much else you can do with it.

If they want people to explain why it’s ethical, then it’s clear they think it isn’t.

But to respond: God said it was okay. Period, stop, end of issue.

Animals bite, so I bite them back. I call it social justice.

It is ethical because it is none of your damn business.

How’s that!

If our ancestors didn’t eat meat, they wouldn’t have been strong enough to survive. I honor them by eating meat at every opportunity.

Besides, if God didn’t intend for us to eat meat, he wouldn’t have made animals so tasty.

Tell Us Why It’s Ethical to Eat Meat?

Because we can.

Since when is the NYT concerned with ethics?

How can they do so without touching religion?

Call it "cafeteria spirituality".

And if you don’t have gravy, how can you really enjoy mountains of mashed potatoes?

Because if I did not eat meat, then those animals I find tasty would cease to exist as they would serve no purpose.

Face it, who would raise cattle just for fun as pets? Chickens? Turkeys? Hogs?

What is ethical about wanting the extinction of all those species as no one could afford or want to keep them.
