Ann Romney, wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said Wednesday she laughed when she first heard that actor Robert De Niro had used her name in a controversial joke.
I took it for what it was: a joke, Romney said on CNNs Piers Morgan Tonight. We take everything so seriously.
Earlier in the day, De Niro apologized for making the quip at a fundraiser for President Barack Obamas re-election campaign. At the event, De Niro mentioned Ann Romney, as well as Callista Gingrich and Karen Santorum, then asked: Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?
Newt Gingrich quickly fired off on De Niro, calling on the president to apologize for his supporters remarks. The Obama campaign followed up saying the comment was inappropriate.
But Ann Romney was all smiles Wednesday night talking about De Niro and arguing that people need to be less serious.
Were all overreacting to so many things and making things so difficult, which means we have to watch every single word that comes out of our mouth. We cant be spontaneous. We cant be funny.
She continued: Ill tell you, in politics the fastest way to get in trouble is make a joke. So I think Robert De Niro just learned that.
She also pointed to what she described as another, more recent overreaction: The frenzy over a comment made by one of her husbands advisers Wednesday, comparing the campaign to an Etch A Sketch drawing toy that Romney could shake up and start all over again in the fall.

.....These are the distractions! This is exactly what happens in a campaign, she said, arguing once again the political world was being overly dramatic. These are the just the frustrations you have to deal with.
Morgan jokingly asked if the Romney campaign planned to make the adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, compose a written apology 100 times in an Etch a Sketch as punishment.
I think thats a great idea, Romney said, laughing. Well have him do that tomorrow.
"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn't make any sense at all.""
-- President Ronald Reagan
She can obviously take a joke, be married to that joker.
I like her. I think she makes a good point.
Hey Ann — do you think you need to suck up to Hollywood so they’ll come to the White House parties you’re planning?
Maybe they’ll let you in to measure the drapes this afternoon.
Then again, planning parties for Hollywood stars and measuring drapes *might* be just a *little* premature.
She seems like a very kind lady, married to a very UNKIND man.
I like Ann Romney one hell of a lot more than I like her husband
I do like Newt’s response too- telling Obama to apologize for his supporters comments - and the dumbass DID
It was a feeling that there was not a sufficient difference now between the parties that kept a majority of the voters away from the polls. When have we ever advocated a closed-door policy? Who has ever been barred from participating?
Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people? - Ronald Reagan
She is correct.
Too many look for anything they can find to make an issue out of. If they can’t find something, they create something.
Many times, the best response to someone is not to respond at all. Ignoring them is more stinging than acknowledging what they said.
The point is...after Fluke, the right should be going after every derogatory thing the left says so I'm glad Gingrich brought it up and made them apologize.

Romney's Wife Gave Money to Planned Parenthood
By RICK KLEIN
Former Gov. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, gave an $150 donation to the abortion-rights group Planned Parenthood in 1994, at a time when Romney considered himself effectively "pro-choice," the Romney campaign confirmed today.
Campaign spokesman Kevin Madden said Ann Romney had no recollection of the circumstances under which she donated the money...

Give it a couple of months Ann, then you won’t think the comments(jokes) made by Mahr and company are so funny.
She’s the only thing Mitt really has going for him. I like this Ann Romney person - even her speeches are better than her husbands.
But Ann Romney was all smiles Wednesday night talking about De Niro and arguing that people need to be less serious.
Romney’s Laura Bush - sweet, liberal, feminine and.......deadly in her influence on her husband.
That's ridiculous. I saws the interview. She was talking about political correctness run amok.
If you shake it more than twice, you’re playin with it.
True, it wasn't a big deal, it also wasn't much of a knee-slapper.
The point is...after Fluke, the right should be going after every derogatory thing the left says so I'm glad Gingrich brought it up and made them apologize.
This. The left made the rules, and it's high time the right forces them to play by those same rules. I really don't think Gingrich was personally offended by the comment, but was instead employing this tactic, which I applaud. It's about time someone beat them with their own idiot stick.
I think America would be ready for this white woman to be First Lady.
Yeah. Right. Whatever you say.
On the other hand I know who she’s married to and how he works, so I don’t buy it. It’s the spouse’s equivalent to “crossing the aisle”. But you believe whatever you want.
