At the nation’s largest solar energy plant Wednesday, President Obama doubled down on his commitment to government subsidies for clean energy technology and green jobs — and deflected blame for instances when those investments have failed.
“Are you doing your ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy right if that’s what we have to show for it — Solyndra?” asked Kai Ryssdal, host of “Marketplace” on American Public Media, in an interview with Obama.
The solar energy start-up Solyndra, which had been the poster child of Obama’s initiative, went bankrupt in 2011, putting 1,000 employees out of work. It had received more than $500 million in federal loan guarantees through a Recovery Act program. The loan process is now the subject of a congressional investigation.
“Obviously, we wish Solyndra hadn’t gone bankrupt,” Obama said. “But understand: This was not our program per se.”
“Congress — Democrats and Republicans — put together a loan guarantee program because they understood historically that when you get new industries, it’s easy to raise money for start-ups, but if you want to take them to scale, oftentimes there’s a lot of risk involved, and what the loan guarantee program was designed to do was to help start up companies get to scale,” he said.
Obama mischaracterizes congressional support for the program, however. The loan to Solyndra was not part of a program developed by both Republicans and Democrats. Rather, it was entirely funded through the 2009 Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which did not receive any GOP votes.

I knew there was an explanation for this. Republicans forced Solyndra on Obama. It couldn't be Obama's fault anymore than gas prices are.

The stimulus bill that funded Solyndra received no Republican votes in the House and only three in the Senate — including Sen. Arlen Specter, who later switched parties.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 that created the section 1703 loan guarantee program had the support of a majority of Republicans — who controlled both houses of Congress at the time — but not “all” of them. The House passed the conference bill 275-156, and 31 Republicans opposed it. The Senate passed it 74-26, with six Republicans voting no. Sens. Joe Biden, now Obama’s vice president, and Hillary Rodham Clinton, Obama’s Secretary of State, voted against it, as did many other Democrats. Clinton criticized the bill as too generous to the oil industry and attacked Obama for voting for it, as we wrote during the 2008 Democratic primary.
Those wind farms are the ugliest sight I’ve seen yet. Talk about nature-unfriendly.

If you are a start up company, you don't hire 1,000 people off the bat. When my parents started their company..they hired me, my brothers and my sister. They didn't hire 1,000 people. (I doubt Sam Walton or Michael Dell or Steve Jobs hired 1,000 within the first 5 years.) My parents company to this day only has 13 employees and they started it 42 years ago.
Solyndra is just a drop in the bucket, compared to the FOUR BILLION DOLLARS First Solar is going to cost you.
But, have no fear, because YOU will be repaying Warren Buffet’s $1.9 Billion investment, so he won’t lose a dime.

You are saying that Obama is lying about oil or Solyndra?
He says he is allowing more drilling than Bush did and that Republicans in congress came up with Solyndra, and Obama-care (except the free birth control which is his gift to women.)
He says any person hired in this country is because of him, but high gas prices are others fault. He says the economy would be at full employment now if only house Republicans made you rich guys pay your fair share.
