Northern leg is key say Canada pipeline proponents [Really?]

TORONTO — Canadian proponents of TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline applauded Barack Obama's directive on Thursday to expedite the approval process for the southern leg of the pipeline. They also urged the U.S. president to approve the northern leg.

Approval of the southern part of the pipeline is not really the Obama administration's call because it does not cross borders. The northern portion of the pipeline needs administration approval because it would cross the Canadian border.

The longer 1,700-mile (2,735-kilometer) pipeline became a political flashpoint late last year when congressional Republicans wrote a provision forcing Obama to make a decision, and environmental groups waged a campaign to kill the project. In January, Obama delayed it, saying the deadline didn't leave enough time for review.

Pipeline proponents cried foul, accusing Obama of making a cynical political move aimed at pacifying the environmentalists in the president's political base and improving his chances of re-election.

Outraged Republicans then successfully inserted pipeline provisions into payroll tax cut legislation in late December.

But within a month, facing a mid-February deadline imposed by that measure, Obama nixed TransCanada's existing permit outright, saying there wasn't enough time to thoroughly review a new route before giving it the green light.

I say it’s time to activate our Agents Provocateur inside the Envirowhack movement and get them all marching and protesting against Barry for doing this (unless he intends to use this pipeline to transport iced tea between Tulsa and Houston)

I’d be tempted to build the northern half on the original path, through our own oil shale deposit areas and stop short of the border pending new management.

Make money transporting our own resources now.

Make more later with additional Canadian oil.

But what do I know?

What’s wrong with a pipeline to nowhere?

Without the Northern leg, what is the Southern leg going carry? This isn’t making sense. It’s my understanding the President doesn’t have any say about building the pipeline from state to state. The only authority he has is when it crosses into Canada.

By the time he approves that, Canada may have made an agreement with China. Then what do you do with the pipeline?

The oil is coming south no matter what. It will just come more slowly by rail, but it will still come.

Obama, one of three presidents in my lifetime that could be counted on to outright lie every time they spoke.
Carter, Clinton, and Zero.

Dictator Baby-Doc Barack is proving himself to be a blithering idiot.

Obama says what he thinks his audience wants to be true, and then expects us to believe his lie.

Why not just complete 1,699 miles of the 1,700 mile pipeline, President Obama?

You can say you approved and built 99.9% of the pipeline miles that were in requested.

True enough.

Influential, political class Republican and Democrat NIMBYs in Nebraska and to the north of it are those who really stand in the way. My neighborhood on the Rockies is mostly populated with the same kind of constituents. Their efforts start on the local level (HOAs, then counties, and on from there), and politicians of both political parties help them in their efforts to stop new production business.

They don’t want more working class trash with jobs (lowly “males” with real families) in their neighborhoods. I see it up close in a Republican majority county. There’s no “hope” or “change” in politics now. Here’s where it’s at. Stop buying so much, and starve the B.
