“Then his “credentials” just took a MAJOR hit!”

Well at least among the hardcore malcontents on this forum anyway. Now among the other 99.999999% of the population? Perhaps Mr. DeMint is still in good standing as a Conservative. He certainly is in my opinion. His life's work is impeccable as is his Lifetime rating.

Excellent analysis!

Sooner or later, we all have to come to grips with our nominee, or else stick with that suicidal “stay home cuz my candidate lost” insanity.

In this day and age, and considering that Obama stands to win another term if we cannot get it together, we have to realize to outcome if we lose.

NONE OF US CAN AFFORD THAT! So we either learn to turn this into a positive, or we are screwed, blued and tattooed!

That's funny because I don't remember Demint saying that last year, but that has been my attitude ever since Romney has been in this. Maybe if he at least admitted it was a mistake and could make a convincing case that he now sees the error of his ways, then you could consider supporting him. But he just seems to have the attitude of it's my turn if you have a problem with Romneycare, get stuffed. Juxtapositioning those two quotes, though, forever changes my impression of Demint.

I have a theory. If you are a conservative politician (with credibility and credentials) in Washington, you have to help out the Rockafeller Repubs now and then with their interests. If you don't, the country club repubs will not give you a seat at the table, freeze you out, smear and ruin your reputation, try to keep you out of an election contest, and even try to destroy your political career.

DeMint got in trouble with the GOP elite for his tea party activism. Especially since the tea party was ousting GOP-E candidates. If you don't give a hand to the GOP-E, you will get the Palin treatment. The GOP-E have the media connections and access to more of the money bags. They will even team up with the dems against anyone who will rock the apple cart. The dems for their part prefer the liberal republicans for obvious reasons (at least until the dems get enough power and then they kick all the repubs to the curb, like after the 2008 elections).

That is why you see some rock solid conservatives do stuff, that make you go "huh?". Palin tried to reach out to the GOP-E a couple of times (like helping McCain), but they don't trust her because she has a fierce independent personality streak and can be bull headed (like her highlighting the crony capitalism issue. I am sure key people on both sides of the aisle were steaming over that one). You have to be a trusted team player to get the support of the liberal powerbrokers. These conservative team players, for their political survival, help to keep those crazy conservatives in line.

Money and power are what keep the machine running both sides of the aisle. If anyone threatens the gravy train there is a united effort to slap that person down.

That's just my theory.

He would no doubt appeal to the Huguenot vote.

LOL.

Willard would likely only choose a running mate who is thoroughly weak and non-threatening to him personally (more or less, a total cypher, a la Kerry Healey in MA). Anyone who could outshine him (let alone be a strong Conservative opposed to his leftist agenda) would never be chosen.

I disagree, he wants to win and would pick a VP he thought would help with that. Running mates in gubernatorial elections don't amount to much at all, unlike VP which can have an appreciable impact.

Huffing glue helps.

See post 15, DeMint was one of the people trying to get the hard left Governor Romney to run while he was still Governor in 2006, serving on his exploratory committee and then being his national party chairman.

Guess who was Lindsey Graham’s party chairman in 2008 (hint; Jim DeMint).

DeMint is not out of favor with the ‘establishment’.

>> DeMint was one of the people trying to get the hard left Governor Romney to run while he was still Governor in 2006, serving on his exploratory committee and then being his national party chairman. <<

Whenever his previous Romney endorsement was brought on one of the "DeMint is so awesome" threads, his fan club would balk and dismiss it by claiming he only endorsed Romney at the last minute to "stop McCain". I used to have to post links refutting it and showing that DeMint endorsed Romney at the START of his presidential campaign, not towards the end.

>> Guess who was Lindsey Graham’s party chairman in 2008 (hint; Jim DeMint). <<

I brought this one up too, and it was simply ignored by DeMint's fan club because it didn't fit with the "DeMint #1 heroic principled conservative icon, Graham #1 evil RINO scum in Washington" meme they were touting for months. DeMint and Graham are on friendly terms, get along well together, and have similar voting records (though DeMint's overall record is to the right of Graham). Kinda a contrast from the idea some on FR portrayed of them being 180o degrees apart.

Sorta like how Chris Christie endorsed one RINO here and was mercilessly attacked on here for months, John Thune endorsed about a dozen odious RINOs, and a bunch of freepers simply ignored and it and continued to swoon over the idea of "Thune 4 President!!!!!!"

>> DeMint is not out of favor with the ‘establishment’. <<

Indeed. Reality among the GOP power players is quite different than some wish it was. They will twist what actually happened and cover it up as needed to push their agenda.
