Hmmm. Strange article.

The word ‘sink’ is not used. They wanted to ‘bomb’ the ship. What does that mean? I wonder.

If real Iranian operatives were behind this, it would have happened. Whatever it was supposed to be which is not clear.

Like Obama, and the U.S. news, there is no distinction between government and newspapers in Egypt. So, this is an Egyptian government revealing that there may have been a possible plan to attack an Israeli ship by Iran. Why reveal this?

The only thing I can stretch to get out of this is that the Egyptians are planning to close the Suez to Israeli ships and are looking for some pretext to say that it is being done for ‘safety’ concerns. That is all I can think of.

Probably nothing more that the writer's first language is Hebrew, and his second language is English and the use of the verb “sink” might not be as obvious to him as it is to you.

Well, to carry it one step farther, this would be an English translation, by a Hebrew speaking author, of an Arabic script newspaper article. So, Ken, atta Tsodeck. (So, Yes, you are right.) It was wrong of me to parse the wording. I genuinely didn't think of that until you mentioned it.

Atta medabear Ivrit?

I would guess that Egypt would want it known to the shippers who use the Suez Canal that they intend to keep all shipping using the canal safe.

Fees for using the canal are one of the few sources of foreign trade left to Egypt, after they have scared off much of the tourist trade.

I know they feel the need to retaliate for the successful targeting of their nuclear infrastructure and personnel, but the Iranians really don’t want to go down this road with Israel.

I would think if an attack occurred in the Suez canal Egypt would consider it an act of war on their country as well. Stupid move for Iran to try this.
