MANDEVILLE, La. — Rick Santorum was running late, and about 250 people were growing restless at a rally sponsored by the Tea Party. So the Harris sisters, a country singing duo, took the stage.
They harmonized on “Game On,” a sprightly campaign anthem that concluded, “Yes, I believe/Rick Santorum is our man.”
What happened next was more like a revival meeting than a political event.
The performers asked each other and the crowd what they liked best about the presidential candidate. Camille Harris, 20, exclaimed into the microphone, “Seven kids! Seven kids!” Turning her attention to Mr. Santorum’s youngest, Isabella, born with a genetic disorder, the singer added, “Didn’t abort the last one, which is amazing.”
Then several women in the crowd called out that Mr. Santorum was a Christian and a “man of faith,” and that he was “honest and honorable.” Bursting with enthusiasm, one woman said, “He’s for life!”
There is no mistaking the bond that Mr. Santorum has with conservative women — particularly married women — a group that has formed a core of his support since the primaries began in January. He has handily carried the votes of women in primaries that he has won, including those in Mississippi and Alabama. And where he has lost, in Arizona, South Carolina and Illinois, he has enjoyed a higher level of support among women than men.
Even as it becomes increasingly clear that Mr. Santorum, who is lagging behind Mitt Romney in both the delegate and money race, will probably remain the runner-up and not the nominee, women who support him say they still will have sent a message about values, and console themselves with the fact that the candidate, who is 53, is young enough to run in 2016.

The winner in November needs this pivotal demographic especially single, white, working women. [According to Gallup in 2008 this demographic went “overwhelmingly” to Obama]

Correct. Santorum has the conservative women vote. But no way will he get the vote of moderate women. No way.
That's why if it's Obama vs Santorum, I regretfully predict Obama in a landslide. The only way Santorum could win would be if Obama did something extremely stupid near election day. Possible, but not likely.
I think our potential candidates are found wanting. Each, except Romney, has his good points. Each has his serious bad points. I’ll vote for Rick, if he’s the candidate, but I’ll be holding my nose. Same for Newt.
Whoever the candidate is, I’ll be voting against Obama.
Romney gets the “moderate” women vote and this is why GOP-e considers him the most electable of the candidates.
I agree with you (again). Now, if Herman Cain had manned-up and stayed in the race, I think everything would have been different. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Cain had the personality - and experience - to take the conservative and the moderate vote.

I would have advised Cain to look right at the camera and say "So what? My personal life is my personal life. I'm running for President, not Pope."
And to the MSM lib's who might hound him on it, I would have advised Cain to say "Sort out everything Bill Clinton did, then get back to me." Be defiant!
Regretfully, women tend to vote for reasons which are quite frankly unreasonable. Going on 100 years of evidence.

Sadly, it is a possibility. I don’t want to, but I really don’t know what to do. I can’t go with the Anyone But Obama philosophy, particularly if Romney becomes the nominee. He is not the conservative he says he is. And I bet dollars to donuts, under Romney the Obama Death Care law will not be repealed. In fact, I doubt anything will change, except get worse. Romney is a carbon copy of Obama.
As for the other three, Santorum is not the true conservative he portrays himself to be. Sure, he espouses family values, but he is not a fiscal conservative. He is arrogant and ignorant. No thank you.
Newt is a major blowhard, your typical politician who talks out of bothn sided of his mouth. He’s also not a conservative either. And Ron Paul I don’t know what he is, except weird. I don’t want a looney in the White House.
So the choices just aren’t there. And without choices, what good is voting? Thank you, Republican hierarchy. Obama is going to win.
Man, you said it. I was a Perry guy. Now we have these 4 chumps left, not a decent conservative amongst the lot of them.
But I’m ABO and will hold my nose and vote for whichever chump is running.
But I ain’t gonna like it.

Think about what the country will be like if every conservative sat 2012 out.
Among others -— we will have more and more judges and justices who think like Ruth Ginsberg. Men like Antonin Scalia are just about retirement age already.
Obamacare STAYS. I know you are a skeptic of Romney. But he did promise and made this the top of his campaign priorities to work hard to repeal Obamacare. His first priority as soon as he is sworn in is to sign an executive order granting an Obamacare WAIVER for all 50 states.
THAT in and of itself is significant.
I am of the opinion that as flawed as everyone of these candidates are, they are BETTER than Obama.
If a train is speeding towards the edge of the cliff with you and I on board, and there is a chance to slow down the train and maybe even cause it to turn around with a new driver, I don’t see the reason why you and I should not give the new driver a chance even when we are skeptical. One thing is certain, it would be totally foolish to keep the current driver.
