California Republicans Get Behind Mitt Romney [Leads Santorum by 19 Points: Nominated Sealed?]

California Republicans Get Behind Mitt Romney The national front-runner has a substantial lead in the state over Rick Santorum, with other rivals trailing in the distance. But there's little enthusiasm for the GOP field overall.

By Seema Mehta March 25, 2012 Republican voters in California have swung behind Mitt Romney, with the national presidential front-runner crushing his rivals by double digits and substantially expanding his support in the state, a new poll has found.

Romney won 42% of registered Republican voters, with his closest rival, Rick Santorum, trailing by 19 points, according to the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were a distant third and fourth.

Romney's support has risen by 15 points since a November USC/Times poll, when Herman Cain was his closest competitor. (The former businessman has since dropped out.)

Yet there remains a palpable lack of enthusiasm for the Republican field. Half of GOP voters said they wished other candidates were running for president.

Barbara Foley, a 73-year-old Republican, said she would prefer former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Rep. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin. She decided to vote for Romney by process of elimination — she says Santorum is too socially conservative, Gingrich is smart but a "loose cannon," and Paul — "well, I just think he's nuttier than a fruitcake."

Things can change between now and then. Plus, aren’t California’s delegates awarded winner-take-all by Congressional district and not winner-take-all for the state as a whole? If so, Rick should pick up delegates in inland California.

RomObama wins where GOP loses and loses where GOP wins.

Newt would’ve won the California I grew up in (1960-74) but John Edwards would do well in today’s California GOP race.

Agree- but then again some would say thrice-married Gingrich might just pull it off especially if he converts to Kaballah.

I’m not voting for Romney if he’s the candidate.

I’ll just say home.

Sorry.

It seems most Republicans have become as deranged as the general populace.

Mr. Reagan won in 1966, even though he’d been married twice. That’s a long time ago. Is Ricky superior to those of us who’ve been divorced?

I think you missed my point. Being divorced or thrice married would be a necessary pre-qualification for CA voters. This is why Gingrich might have a shot at winning in CA

The California Republican Party used to be pretty conservative. They were not necessarily a majority of the voters, but conservatives were a majority within the party.

But Bush, Rove, and Arnold pretty much destroyed that.

Another blue state Romney will win. Why on Earth does Fox News find this so exciting. This is tragic. What should matter is the red states and purple states and who wins them. Sure winning Florida, Ohio, and Michigan are probably pretty good, but Illinois and California???? Really? We are going to lose this election by historic proportions if Romney is our nominee.

I can understand being married twice. One is inexperienced at the first marriage and could easily make a mistake.

But being married three times? No, at that point I’d say something is wrong with you.

Not necessarily. As a friend of mine once explained, after his fifth wife divorced him, it was simply a case of poor wife selection skills. Somehow, he'd married five bad wives.

Don’t judge a man until you walk in his shoes?
First marriage=divorce
Second marriage=spouse dies
Third marriage=still going after 32 yrs.

Lots of things happen in this life that some of you don’t have to experience, thank goodness.
Those of us who have had these hard times don’t need others looking down their noses at us and saying there’s something wrong with us.

I thought Two-State Newt had his eyes on CA. By the time CA comes, no one will still be in the race but Mittens anyway.

I supported Perry, then Cain, then Gingrich, and now Santorum.

When the time comes, I will support the nominee.

At least the longer Mitt has to campaign against other Republicans, we can count on him making ever more conservative speeches.

His Illinois speech was his most conservative yet, as Rush says.

He may not be sincere but at least we can try to hold him to his promises later. Now if we can just get him to denounce his previous stance on anthropogenic global warming, and the health care insurance mandate..... (among others).

This is exactly the point. The goobers in blue states are choosing the nominee. It works for the Rino R Establishment...

Your screwball zelot Saint is still going to lose. So you just keep up your “thrice-married Gingrich” crap and know that I will be LMAO when I hear you crying.
