If you read the article carefully, all it says is that the shooter was not racist. The friend was NOT an eye-witness to the shooting. Gingrich and Obama both need to stop making racial capital off this tragic case. We don’t kill completely unarmed people without first firing warning shots or at least shots that would cause non-lethal injuries. Even Jeb Bush noted that under FL law the stand your own ground defense would not be available here. Maybe you know a lot more than the eyewitness accounts we’ve heard so far.

You don’t use warning shots or shoot to wound, that’s in the movies. There appears to be some evidence if what I’ve read is true that only one shot was fired from the semi-automatic handgun and that the empty shell casing was in the chamber and had not been ejected. This could be and most likely, caused by someone (probably the “victim” in a struggle for the gun) having a tight grip on the slide as the gun was fired preventing the shell casing from being ejected and the chamber being re-loaded. Close quarters and a struggle for the gun would preclude warning or wounding shots.

You never fire warning shots or shoot to wound. Any one with any self defense traing knows this. At this time the only evidence released shows that Zimmerman was returning to his vehicle and then the 911 call from “John” stating that Martin was on top of Zimmerman beating him and Zimmerman was calling for help. This is consistent with the physical evidence, Zimmerman’s injuries and his statement. If Martin did attack Zimmerman as he stated then this is a clear cut case of self defense.
I don’t know the law in FL but in PA SYG law means that you have the right to use deadly force to protect yourself or another from the threat of grave bodily injury or death anywhere you have a legal right to be.

Again, no one should make any implied statements until the investigation is over. You are making statements based on incomplete reporting that he should of fired warning shots... yet I’ve seen reports that indicate Zimmerman was walking back to his vehicle when Martin came back and attacked him... there was even a 911 witness who reported that Martin was on top of him beating him... another report indicates that there was a struggle for control of his gun... so at which point do you fire warning shots?
The situation is fairly fubar’d and disappointing... but it is what it is and the police and DA will investigate it... unfortunately, if it turns out that Zimmerman’s account is accurate and he is not charged then the rest of the folks who have already tried and convicted him will want blood... If it turns out that he did something wrong then I’m confident that the local system will handle it.

If a 6-foot person is sitting on your chest, beating in your face with his fists and you have a gun in your holster, are you going to let him kill you OR are you going to save you life?
The police made a determination based on evidence at the scene, on 911 calls and eye-witness accounts.
I suspect this whole tragedy could have been avoided if Mr.Martin had used common sense, stopped, and chatted with Mr.Zimmerman. Mr.Zimmerman has, as a member of community watch, a history of informing the Sanford police of questionable or suspicious activity in that gated community. He does not, as far as I can ascertain, have a history of violent confrontations, something community watch folks are warned against doing.

Note: I’ve known for a year that the BHO2 administration was going to stir up a race war this coming summer.
