Court rules that the American parents of a boy born in Jerusalem can argue that their son's U.S. passport may list Israel as his birthplace.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the American parents of a boy born in Jerusalem can go to court in order to argue that their son's U.S. passport may list Israel as his birthplace.
Due to the State Department's long-standing policy, nine-year-old Menachem Zivotofsky's birth certificate, and thus his passport, show Jerusalem with no specified country of birth.
U.S. law, which actually allows passports to list Jerusalem, Israel, has existed since 2002. However, like Congress decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, it was never implemented.
Monday's Supreme Court decision allows the lower courts to deal with a case which they previously rejected as meddling with the U.S. foreign policy.

Liberals: People who recognize that Jerusalem is a city but don’t like to admit that it’s in a country, who recognize that a baby is alive before it is born but don’t like to admit that it’s a person, and who say that they approve of freedom as they take away the opportunity to make decisions for ourselves.

Barry and Hillary won't like this. Who are the Supremes to tell them they have to listen to a court.
a bit confused
the supreme court ruled that someone has the right to got to court??
So if a US citizen was born outside the US then his/her passport lists both their country *and* city of birth?? My passport just lists the state in which I was born.
Don’t know about passports. Most of these actions relate to birth certificates. Both may be an issue, or ha’aertz may have the issue wrong.
Yes. In the past administrations of both parties have successfully argued at lower levels that this was a foreign affairs issue with which neither Congress nor the courts can interfere
You certainly could be correct but I read this issue as being related to passports.Oh well....
