I hate to say it, but Newt's been running a campaign aimed at the +1σ and above region of the IQ bell curve. Unfortunately, this only encompasses ~15% of the population, which is about what Newt's been getting consistently since Florida.

He’s doing what he has to do to try to survive until August in Tampa. He’s broke, and it’s a longshot at best as to whether he can last that long, and whether there will be an open convention.
