Romney’s Record on Judicial Appointments: Can he be trusted to appoint conservatives to Courts?

Summary: Mitt Romney’s record as Governor does not indicate a commitment to a conservative judicial philosophy.

His judge appointees revealed at best “no philosophical or partisan pattern” (Boston Globe), or at worst a liberal and even radical tilt. He sought out feminists and radical homosexual groups in his judicial selection process. He was inconsistent in his pronouncements on judicial activism, allowing it to occur under his watch (with “gay marriage”) while simultaneously urging others to fight it. How then could we expect him to keep his recent promises to appoint constitutional conservatives to the bench if he is elected President?

What sort of attorneys would he name to his Justice Department? As Governor, his Chief Legal Counsels advised him to implement unconstitutional policies: implementing “gay marriage” without legislative authorization, and forcing Catholic hospitals to dispense morning-after abortion pills.

Are achieving “diversity” and “non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation” still core values for Romney in his appointments?

"My only connection to the GOP is that I'm a registered Republican"

Do you really think that this bum is going to appoint anything approaching a conservative to the court?

No way he will dare put a lib on the court — especially if the SC tosses out obamacare.

If you truly think that, you are too stupid to live. What in Romney's character or history makes you think he will bow to conservatives on anything? He will ram his liberal judges down our throats and laugh while doing it. Then, his people will taunt us because we have no place else to go.

Or haven't you been paying attention?

The highest number of electoral votes I could see Romney achieving is 268 (this is the best case scenario. Most of those I deem likely are much worse.)

“What does your post #10 and you and your family voting for Newt have to do with your promoting of Mitt?

You are still advocating a vote for Mitt by your posts on this thread.”

I am not “advocating for Mitt” by stating that I think that he’s preferable to Obama if we’re stuck with that choice. You can choose to believe otherwise if you want, and you obviously do, so there’s no point in attempting further discussion with you.

Don’t let your hatred for Romney read anything into my position. I’m no fan of his either. I just think he’d be less destructive than O’Communist, period.

I couldn't disagree more. As bad as Obama is, he'll be mostly neutered with a Republican Congress. Romney, on the other hand, will use a Republican Congress to do things the Democrats have had on their wish list for years. And then we'll get absolutely crushed in 2016.

Look what happened in Massachusetts. That's what Romney has planned for the entire country.

Absolutely true. A Romney Presidency would be the Democrats' dream come true. Not only will he govern like a liberal, he'll be the Democrats' whipping boy when the SHTF beginning in 2013. It will all be blamed on Romney just like they blamed it on Bush. Then in 2016, don't be surprised if Obama runs again with the mantra "I TOLD you so!".

All seeing one, who would Romney nominate for Supreme Court Justice - someone like Scalia or like Ginsburg?

All unknowing one, take a look at the judges Romney appointed when governor, and you'll answer your own stupid question.

Can Romney be trusted with judicial appointments? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

He wouldn’t know an originalist or a strict constructionist if he fell over him. He doesn’t even have any advisors who could point him in the right direction. I doubt he’s ever heard of the Federalist Society or, if he has, he thinks they’re terrorists.

If you liked Earl Warren, David Souter and Harriet Miers, you’ll love Romney’s choices.

“As bad as Obama is, he’ll be mostly neutered with a Republican Congress.”

You’re assuming there will be a Republican Congress. If the spineless Republican House is any indication so far, a Republican Congress won’t do diddly squat to hinder either Obama’s or Romney’s agenda. Thus, I’m left with the pathetic consolation that just maybe Romney isn’t overtly committed to our destruction like Obama is.
