BSO: Man shot dead in Pompano Beach appears to be case of self-defense

A father fatally shot a man in Pompano Beach after the man threatened his family, swinging a piece of wood at his wife and kids, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting was still under investigation Monday.

“At this point, all indications so far point to this man defending his family and defending himself,” BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said.

It happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Northeast Second Avenue, BSO said. The wife and two children walked out the door when a stranger confronted them.

The stranger swung a piece of wood at them, BSO said. It was two and three feet long and looked like it came from furniture. Then the father and his two brothers came home. “He sees this stranger going into his yard and he has this piece of wood in his hand and he’s swinging it toward his family,” Coleman-Wright said. “His wife and children were hysterically screaming.”

Emiliano Arellano, 37, got out of the car with his handgun, which he was licensed to carry, BSO said.

Arellano and his two brothers tried to stop the man, BSO said. The wife and 3-year-old son managed to get in the car, but the 5-year-old daughter could not, Coleman-Wright said. Arellano said he was going to call the police.

“And that’s when the guy lost it, became very agitated and made aggression toward [Arellano’s] daughter,” Coleman-Wright said.

Arellano fired once, fatally hitting the man in the chest. The same bullet hit Arellano’s brother, who was expected to recover.

Arellano stayed at the scene. He cooperated and answered questioned, BSO said. Deputies interviewed those involved and other witnesses, BSO said.

Why the stranger confronted the family remained a mystery Monday. He had no I.D. on him, and on Monday deputies were still trying to identify him.

No discussion of relative skin pigmentations? What kind of crime story is this?

Curiously, we only read the attacker described as 'the stranger' and 'the guy'.

Innocent oversight, shirley.

@Authorities ID man who they say was slain while menacing Pompano family
Ciriaco Estrada was acting erratically and threatening a woman, her 3-year-old boy and her 5-year-old girl shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when the woman's husband, Emiliano Arellano, 37, intervened with deadly force, officials said.

A matter of mere moments from reading your article to finding the second story.
Not berating so don't get irate...you might have done that yourself and posted the article I did in your first reply if you had used some forethought.

The only thing for sure is that the dead idiot is white trash, otherwise BSO would have arrested Arellano for spitting at the guy , much less shooting him dead and wounding his brother in the process.

Ciriaco Estrada, 47. The police were able to get an ID on him pretty quickly, but he doesn’t seem to have much of an Internet presence. Possibly a Facebook, but that could be a different Ciriaco Estrada.

Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute....

Have we asked the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YET? What is the SKIN COLOR and ETHNICITY of each of the individuals?

We don’t need the facts, just the races.

Has B Hussein tuned us up to where we all have hair triggers? Forty-nine shot, ten killed after one of his fundraisers in Chicago. Tiny (six two, two hundred plus), innocent (multi-page rap sheet) Trayvon, and too many more.

Okay. Just trying to cut off any new 'racist' BS from starting anew.
There's enough of that already simply from people relying on the MSM and not looking into things for themselves.

There was no justified reason for killing this guy. All he had was a stick in his hand. People can’t even walk around with sticks anymore without getting profiled. And one old guy with a cane against three guys. It is an outrage. At the least he should have just shot the cane out of his hand - I think he was just very old and had dementia, and was looking for the nursing home.

(Sorry - was reading some liberal comments on the Trayvon thing on youtube and came up with the above.)
